Do any hoovers work without being a massive pain in the arse?

I hate it. I have half wooden floors and half carpet and, or more like 60/40 and for years made do with a brush. Then last year I decided I needed to be more grown-up, did some research and got a hoover. It's a Bosch cordless one and not cheap. I hate it so much. It seems to need emptying every minute. When stored it always discharges some dust and crap that then needs to be cleaned up and becomes visible even on days when I have no intention of hoovering, which is annoying. It has a really annoying light on it that shows up all the stuff it is not hoovering up. To be fair, now I'm just sat here in normal light the rugs look good and much better than before I hoovered, but while hoovering loads of shit was lit up, which in the end I just gave up on.

I'm working up the energy to take it upstairs but I'll probably just get frustrated again. Can anyone recommend a good one. I had the bag ones years ago and it would always just get to a point where I couldn't remember which bags it was or how to take it apart and deal with the inevitable dust cloud so I just gave up on hoovers for a while.

We have Shark cordless and corded ones - cordless one is great but more for quick, daily hoovering, whereas the corded one is needed for a proper job when the cleaners come. Both work brilliantly, really pleased with them. We had to get them after getting two very fluffy pedigree cats who create a lot of fluff.

This one. I’ve had Dyson’s, Miele’s etc, all complicated, high maintenance, and expensive. This was easy to assemble & is simple to operate. Good value for money. A simple button to switch from hard floor to carpet. www.hoover-home.com/en_GB/products/39101052-hl410hm-1-001
