Does anyone know what this is?

Not going to touch it but just wondering if anyone knows what this is?

I just moved in a few days ago and was stripping the old wallpaper off in the kitchen, I then noticed the copper thing and stopped. It's right above the tiles and right below the cooker switch.

Tried AI who said different things.. one said it was something to do with the tiles and the other implied I might die if I touch it so thought I would ask actual people!

Consulted my OH and he says it looks like a bare copper wire and because of its location (directly below the cooker switch) is likely to be the cable to the cooker, possibly redundant (hence why cut off). If so, should not have been left like that.
The only way to be certain is to remove the cooker switch (is it in use?) and see if the connection to the cooker is present. Should be labelled separately on the fuseboard so you can turn it off for safety.
Do you even have an electric hob/oven/cooker?????
To see where the cable goes, you will need to investigate further by removing the paper and looking for the connection point at lower level.

If in doubt, get someone in.👍
This sort of thing also points to poor DIY so expect other horrors to emerge as you progress.☹️
