Would you let your child use wet mop pads unsupervised?

DD has been getting up in the mornings on the weekend and telling us to stay in bed, she then goes downstairs and tidies anything that out, hoovers the living room and ‘mops’ (uses a dry/dust sheet with the flash mop) but she’s notices that I used the wet mop pads and/or spray and now she’s asking if she can do that in the mornings. Initially I said no because it’s chemicals and if I’m not downstairs with her (she doesn’t want us downstairs as she likes to surprise us with the hard work she’s done) then I can’t leave her to handle chemicals on her own. She keeps asking if she can just put a wet moo-pad on the mop so she can mop properly but wants to do it by herself and said she’ll wash her hands after she’s touched it.

I don’t know if I’m being a bit helicoptery or just expecting her to eat the mop pad which obviously she won’t.. but if I put a wet mop on the flash mop the night before and leave it covered in the tub so it doesn’t dry out. All she has to be is lift it out I guess.. should I let her? Or just say to keep using the dry ones.

If a kid is old enough to be cleaning your house like that she's surely sensible enough to use a mop. She's already said shel wash her hands. I don't see the issue.

Child is a vague term, it obviously makes a big difference if she's one, seventeen or somewhere in between.

I am all for kids doing chores but this feels quite sad to me. I am assuming she is 4 or 5? Quite young

Depends how old she is really, but if she's doing all that already she sounds sensible enough to not eat the mop wipes...

Like PP said, I would let her wet mop it with water and a little bit of washing up liquid. My DD occasionally does this, it’s very sweet

I'm guessing she's between 7- 11? Sounds like the kind of thing someone that age might do (not that my kids ever offer to clean...). Don't see what harm she would come to in using them? As a phase it might not last long so make the most of it while she's keen (joke).

If you’re worried about her with chemicals, supervise her.

Obviously though, this is all really hard to answer without knowing if she’s 3, 7, 14 or 17!
