Would a dinosaur school bag make my Year 5 son stand out?

My DS has just turned 9 and is going into year 5.

He’s massively into dinosaurs, doesn’t really fit any ‘cool’ stereotype and isn’t bothered about things being cool.

He has a fairly babyish bag with a dinosaur pattern that he’s had since starting school. I’ve suggest we need a bigger bag for school now and he still wants a dinosaur one.

i have no issue with his love of dinosaurs, but I don’t want him to be picked on. Kids can be mean! I have suggested a plain Nike bag with some Jurassic World keyrings. Or should I get him something like the ones in the photos?

Your DS may think differently in a year or two, and you surely want the bag to be used for longer than that?

I think you should let him have the bag he wants and be proud that he doesn’t care what anyone else thinks. I don’t think he would get bullied for it in primary (not in the area I live in anyway).

Would be fine where I teach but it's rural and not somewhere children are particularly into trends!

I'd get a plain bag and add dinosaurs keyrings. Not because he might be bullied but because if he changes his mind later you could still use the bag.

We are rural and a pretty easy going school but this would stand out in my child's class at that age.

A dinosaur pencil case or notebook or keyring wouldn't.

I dont know why the kids would be judgemental about one but not the other but kids are a mystery sometimes.

My son in law ( used to be) would have liked those. In his 30s with a Masters degree 🤣

wont change it. Hype seems to be in with her rural school.

Let him have the bag. Kids give in to peer pressure younger and younger all the time, so if yours is still happy to show his individuality, let him. Don't ever make him think it's not ok for him to be himself.

The second bag would be cool . Let him
br himself and be proud that he knows who he wants to be .
