Good Morning All! What are you doing today?

I'm just finishing my first cuppa, in my conservatory spot. No cats this morning - they've had breakfast & gone back upstairs! It's chillier this morning, I've got my dressing gown on for the first time in weeks!

My plan for today is to hopefully get the last bit of what I want to use for a veg bed covered with weed membrane, and sieve the rest of the slate chips out of the other side so I can cover there. Also want to cut back some brambles that have started to overhang the back a bit - will need to cart ladders down there for that.

I also REALLY REALLY need to get on with my crochet project. So will try to get an hour at that.

Dd2's off out with her friends at some point. They usually pick up some sort of picnic at Tesco but were looking for something else they could do instead (one of their mums prefers her dc to stay close, so they are a little limited really).

I'm not sure what dd1's up to - she needs to think about starting to re-pack and writing us a list of the things she wants to take back with her. We went shopping for some of it the other week but didn't get far!

I think I'll do meatballs for tea, so dd2 can easily reheat if she wants when she gets in. Then settle down with my book for an hour or two before bed...no more late nights reading or waking up at 6am will be a struggle.

What about all of you? 🙂

Just having a quick coffee before work starts!

Tiddlywinks63 · 22/08/2026 09:57

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone following, it is a lovely autumnal morning here, cool and bright and the first load of washing is on the line, two more to follow.
I have changed the bed and added a fleece throw because I felt cold last night despite two hot water bottles, so hoping that I’m cosy tonight.
DH is faffing around before taking bigger dog out, he took tiddler earlier.
There’s cottage pie for dinner ( thanks to M&S), broccoli and cauliflower and green beans.
I’ve finished my second piece of sashiko, I’m going to start a small piece of crewel embroidery for a change today. Tiddler and I will be spending much of today in my Shed, it’s very comfortable and I can watch the birds on the feeders. We have a posse of goldfinches visiting every day, such pretty little birds.
Have a lovely weekend x

Good morning, the kids have been asking for those fluffy Japanese pancakes for a while, so I made some this morning as a treat for finishing the first week back at school, they actually worked really well.

Our son is after something as he’s being extra nice, he has just taken our daughter to the park, apparently because he’s a nice brother, I give him twenty minutes before they’re both back and he’s having a strop.

Hes off to the rink later to watch them bring the ice back for the hockey season, so he’ll probably beg for ‘only’ £20 for some lunch.

My husbands taking our daughter to a hospital appointment this afternoon, so while they do that I’m going to finish oiling the woodwork downstairs while the house is empty.

Have a nice saturday

Bringyourfoldingchair · 22/08/2026 10:01

Good morning everyone! We’re at our caravan. I took a few days off last week and took the little two and DH joined us with the older one yesterday evening. I’m about to cook up some sausages for breakfast and then will get ready and take DS3 to the park for a little bit. Later in the day we are planning a drive and a forest walk. Will take the kids bikes and it has loads of play parks around the walk so hopefully that will keep them happy. Back later for a Chinese and some wine. Have a lovely Saturday everyone!

mondaytosunday · 22/08/2026 10:13

Yes LOVE the fact I actually snuggled under my very lightweight duvet last night! This is ideal weather for me - expected high of 22, sunny with gentle breeze.
I’m about to go down for some breakfast - cats were given theirs earlier though my big ginger male has come in to me twice meowing like he’s on his last reserve! My DD, home from six weeks away and who I’d not normally not see til after noon had just left without saying where (unusual for her). She’s 21 but a ‘just meeting X in town’ or whatever would have been polite! Her phone is acting up so we now have to communicate via email so I’ll just have to assume she’ll return at some point!
After breakfast I too have a crochet project going (or three). One I stopped as ran out of yarn so started another and made a major mistake on the measurement (it’s a top and forgot I need twice the length) so rather than frog out hours of work it will now be a short sleeved t shirt rather than the three quarter length loser top I was planning. But the other yarn has arrived though frustratingly it’s a discontinued colour so had to get more off eBay paying 30% more than original RRP! I had broken my golden rule of only buying yarn when I had an exact project in mind so I’d get enough.
Said DD is supposed to be cooking dinner tonight - a potato crusted quiche with leeks, pepper, spinach and mushrooms. But will she? I await her return!

Good morning Lucysmam and All

I was up early this morning after not sleeping very well but cat was happy he got fed early and I managed to clean the fridge (a job that has been on my list for weeks!) before online shop came.

Then tea and croissants with DD14 who has now gone back to her room.

Will try and get a bit organised today for the return to work on Monday after having 3 weeks off. As ever, it’s gone ridiculously fast and not looking forward to going back but c’est la vie. Am hoping if I can get reasonably organised today with doing some bits & pieces (that I had sworn I was going to do at the start of my break) then tomorrow DD and I can go out somewhere so it won’t feel like a ‘waiting to go back to work’ day.

I will do a roast chicken for tea as weather thankfully cooler and I’ve been hankering after one for weeks. Then DD and I are working our way through the comedy series ‘The Middle’ so we’ll watch a few episodes this evening.

Pasithean · 22/08/2026 10:19

Morning all. Same as yesterday and every other bloody day. Need to tidy up a bit to keep on top of things as hose is on market.

Giggorata · 22/08/2026 10:43

Good morning lucysmam and all.
Finishing off my teapot before going upstairs to sort out yet more stuff. Got another big bag for the charity shop and starting another.
DH is shopping, so has already rung up three times! His excuse is that he hasn't had his coffee this morning. Gods know what we'll end up with, but as long as he gets the peppers and courgettes I need for my ratatouille, I will let him live.

I am out at a witchy social this evening, so looking forward to seeing some old friends.
I'm mourning the end of summer and I was freezing last night, but I suppose I welcome the rain. The verges have greened up a bit already.

BestIsWest · 22/08/2026 10:49

Morning.
Have had tea and breakfast. Now having coffee.
Going to shower and go to the garden centre with DH - I have a list of plants I’m looking for and I want to look at bulbs. Will have coffee and cake.
Then a bit of tidying in the garden.

Later will pop to see my DM and then make a curry for supper.
Tonight we’ll spend an hour looking for a film to watch that we both like the look of then DH will fall asleep and I’ll doom scroll.

Activelife · 22/08/2026 10:54

I woke up at 10am, now having coffee, a bit of lofi playing in the background.
It not hot we have a bit of chill in the air love it.
Lit a candle morning dew.
Just going to potter about indoors today.
I`ve got no chores to do.

Thislittlekitten · 22/08/2026 11:02

Morning Squad

I was up early to drop DS in town and then DH and I walked the dog. I feel surprising not tired after first week back at work. Been nice to see all the children. DS first week of high school
so far has went well which is a huge relief.

Home now. Dishwasher and machine on. Day of pottering and chores. I’m out tonight which I’m looking forward to so need to think what I’ll wear.

FayKnights · 22/08/2026 11:21

Morning @lucysmam and the Saturday Gang

Much cooler here in SE London, still a nice bit of sun but not as oppressive as it has been.

Shopping has been delivered so I plan to do a bit of batch cooking as haven’t wanted cooked properly in what feels like months.

I have 2 heading off to uni in a few weeks,so need to start getting them organised. One is second year and moving into a house with friends and the youngest is starting first year and into halls.
Unhelpfully they are in very different locations!!!

Apart from all that, dogs need walking and house needs a tidy.

Have a great Saturday everyone.

Crunchymum · 22/08/2026 11:25

We're just getting ready to check out, after our two week holiday.

We don't actually fly until this evening so we're putting our luggage in storage and going down to the harbour for lunch before hitting the gift shops and taking some last pictures.

It's a 4 hour flight and we won't be home proper until 2am 🫣. I expect very grumpy children on route home!!

Rainbow1235 · 22/08/2026 11:27

Good morning lucysmam and to u all I’ve just clean thru but not a lot to do now as it’s only 3 of us here then at 3 I’m meeting my cousins for food and a few drinks havent seen them in a while so looking forward to it . Have a great and safe day all 🫶

OneZanyCat · 22/08/2026 11:29

I was woken up by the cat at 8am with 2 very gentle bashes of the big white paw on the head then when that didn't work a harder bash. Cat had breakfast, cuddles and a game and also woke DH up.

Going to bakers to collect cakes including scones we will have for an afternoon tea. Nice weather here, mid 20s. DD is in Austria.

MoreIcedLattePlease · 22/08/2026 11:29

Good morning all (just about)!

I was up early for a Saturday, for me, today. Showered, made scrambled eggs on toast and dressed and ready to head out to a close friend's birthday gathering shortly.

DH has cleaned the house from top to bottom - I'm unsure why as we would usually do this tomorrow!

DD is off to camp with scouts for a week today, so we are redecorating her room whilst it's empty, and also decluttering the entire house. DH has booked a week off to we can do this, and also have some lazy mornings in bed together before I'm back to work next week.

This evening we might watch a Marvel film - I need to catch up before Doomsday is released - and I have some cutting and sticking and backing and laminating to do for my classroom displays!

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

DilemmaDelilah · 22/08/2026 13:11

Good afternoon @lucysmam and everyone. I'm late today! The morning has been a bit full on....

Far away daughter and Houdini arrived very late last night after a horrendous journey, but Houdini was awake at 6am so I got up with him. He wanted marmite on toast for breakfast - except once I had made it he didn't want breakfast at all - of course - he just wanted to play. What he really wanted was the telly on but I really can't be subjected to the horrible nasal cackling of Bippy or whatever his name is so early in the morning. I have, basically, been either amusing him or trying to get him to amuse himself all morning! I did manage to put a wash on and that is in the tumble dryer already.

They finally went out around 12.00, we have had lunch and I have gone for a rest as I had a somewhat difficult and tiring day yesterday, stayed up late to welcome far away daughter, and then I have been '4 year-olded' all morning. I will be up in time to pop a chicken in to roast for this evening. Mr Dilemma has already peeled the potatoes and will probably do most of the work for the roast, to be honest, as he really likes cooking a roast dinner. I got some of last year's frozen stewed apple out of the freezer this morning and I'm going to make a batch of crumble topping for it, and for the freezer.

They should be back around 6pm, so that is when I will be timing the chicken for.

I have nothing else planned for today. I expect I will be on bath and bedtime story duty this evening, which I don't mind.

JacknDiane · 22/08/2026 13:20

Im working today unfortunately but the shop is quiet.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 22/08/2026 13:34

Good afternoon lucysmam and others. I'm late today. I was up early then headed to ds with stuff he wanted to borrow to stage his flat for putting his flat on the market this week coming. He took me out for lunch and invited his great aunt and uncle to join us. At long last he told them that he's going to be a dad and he will move closer. Thank god, I've had to bite my tongue for months!
Now I'm home and the sheets are in the washing machine. I will catch up on housework soon. Have a good day

zingally · 22/08/2026 14:29

Went out to the supermarket at 7:30 this morning in just a t-shirt. Definitely not warm enough! Car said 11C! Put a jumper on as soon as I get home.

Woke up not feeling great. Incredibly achy all over. Was feeling distinctly rough when waiting to get my free coffee from Greggs. Popped some painkillers when I got home, and feel a bit looser, but definitely not quite right. It may explain why I was feeling in such a bad mood and short-tempered yesterday.

Just one more week left of my very intense 7-week summer job. It can't come soon enough. I've enjoyed it mostly, but am ready for a break definitely. I've then got a full week off, before a week in Austria with my mum.

Mum has been away with her sisters for the past couple of days, who report she has a limp and lacks energy. I'm not massively concerned, as she had major abdominal surgery back in mid-May, and is in her 70s. But I'll take a good look at her when we go away in a couple of weeks, and take it from there. It's just something else to worry about!

It'll be a lazy remainder of the weekend for me, as I try and shake what I suspect is a small virus. A veggie pizza is on the cards for tea. Now I'm off to fold a bit of washing and have a mid-afternoon bath. The height of indulgence for me!

katscamel · 22/08/2026 16:21

I had hoped for a lazy morning after sone early starts at the gym but my bidy decided that waking up at 5 was a far better idea... I did manage to doze again but wasn't exactly restful.

Went to a nearby town by the sea with mum thus morning for a last ice cream before I move overseas and then back for a catch up with a friend.

@zingally I know what you mean re: intense summer job. I finished a 6 week one and have just had a week off before starting a new job but could definitely do with another few weeks.

Now time to get my last minute packing done, sort out a load of random stuff and move stuff out of a room that needs decorating while I'm away.

Oxo01 · 22/08/2026 17:59

Belated good morning to all

I met up with G/daughter and my 2 GGC to buy them school uniform and clothes for nursary along with a couple of treats for them. Had some lunch whilst out.

Home a couple of hours ago had a rest, going to do some dinner for me and partner in peace and quiet 😂

ViciousCurrentBun · 22/08/2026 18:33

I’m on the Wild Atlantic way in Ireland in our motorhome with DH, walked along a quiet beach. Had lunch on the van. Out to dinner later, meeting up with friends tomorrow and off to a pub for a music night. Saw other friends last night, drank Guinness and had pizza in their local. Great times we are here till probably early October
