Vinted and accusation of Counterfeit

I sold a cashmere jumper on Vinted and the buyer says she thinks it is not cashmere and has raised a complaint. I have sent Vinted the proof of purchase from the shop that I originally bought it from. I have also requested the buyer returns it. How likely am I going to get my £180 back? I don’t know what else I can decide and feel the buyer is just trying it on to get it for free.

Sadly Vinted is full of scammers and they very often side with the scammer . I have a rule of not selling anything over £20. Hopefully they return your jumper and not something else.

Video yourself opening the package. Yes Vinted might not care but if you take the buyer to small claims it’s good evidence

I had a positive outcome with Vinted. Buyer was clearly lying but they took about a couple of weeks to cancel the order and credit me.
Essentially she got the item for free but she defrauded Vinted instead of her original target, me.

I was sold a pair of counterfeit adidas shorts on Vinted. Despite the label inside being written in Chinese, I had to jump through hoops to get my money back, and waited over two weeks, despite me messaging customer “support” repeatedly.

The buyer will have to prove it’s counterfeit. They want pictures of all labels, a justification as to why it’s counterfeit, comparison photos etc.

They then kept extending the time given to the seller to provide a receipt (despite having banned her account before I reported her).

If you’ve sent the receipt and the labels say “cashmere” I think you’ll be fine.

Just to add - if Vinted deem it to be counterfeit, the buyer doesn’t have to return it.

op is the seller, do you mean packaging it up?
I also have an under £35 rule for Vinted and use Vestiare for anything valuable. I have an untouched Moschino handbag and won’t be using Vinted for it, despite not having had issues it’s too risky.

Opening it when it’s returned to her so she has evidence if buyer doesn’t send it back

Make this make sense!

😂

If the buyer returns the wrong item deliberately (some cheap t shirt or something) then the OP videoing herself opening the package will help with evidence if she decides to pursue the claim to small claims

£180 is a lot to lose

How? It proves what the buyer sent back but since the buyer is saying that what she/he sent back is what the OP sent, how does videoing the OP opening help the OP?

LaurieFairyCake · 22/08/2026 09:58

The buyer is NOT saying that, they’re saying the item isn’t cashmere. It’s possible they try to keep the item and send back a tea towel. The OP videoing herself opening it on return mitigates that. I assume the OP already has photos/video of the item she sent.

Hopefully the buyer sends back the right item.

Buyers on Ebay can be dishonest too. One claimed an item in a batch of 4 arrived damaged. Sent a picture showing all 4, only one damaged. I offered a 25% refund since it was one of 4. Buyer said well Im going to have to return them now as it was the only one I wanted. Told her ok I will accept the return but as you changed your mind you will have to pay international tracked shipping. Buyer opens "not as described" claim not realising that her correspondence with me can be seen by the agent on live chat. Agent agrees she is returning for "change of mind" and that I followed the rules. She was given choice of accept the 25% or return at own expense. Accepted the 25% refund. You really do have to be ahead of these people who are dishonest and not very bright. Buyer is now blocked.

@Friendlygingercat ebay definitely has better resources set up for resolving this type of bs.
