Heat pump condensor dryer musty smell, help?

All of the clothes I've recently put through the tumble dryer have a very musty smell. I've cleaned the filter traps (2) in the drum. I didn't realise I was meant to clean the spongey filter in the lower left corner and there was fluff built up in the (metal condensor bit). I've contacted the manufacturer (Bosch) and they've recommended I hoover the metal condesnor bit and have sent me a replacement filter. But I'm wondering if I've permanently damaged the heat pump/compressor metal bit? I look online at photos and they're shiny silver, mine certainly has gray over the coils in the rear.

It's a Bosch heat pump condensor dryer and is only 3 years old! We have it draining to the sewer line so I don't need to empty the water tray.
