Crown re-cemented and now feels too big, is that normal?

I had a Crown on a lower backmola, which came off.. i couldn't get to see the dentist for a few days, but I took The Crown with me to get him to put it back on. And he put it back on and now it feels much too big. It feels like he's put a Crown back on. That's 2 sizes too big, which it isn't. Because it was the same Crown that came off before. He said that it's because I've had a missing Crown. And I need to get used to having a Crown in that area again, but even so, it really does feel too big and he said, if it feels too big after a few days come back, but surely he should have adjusted it there and then has anybody else had that problem?

I had a crown replaced on a front tooth last week & it felt odd at first but I’ve stopped noticing it now.

Well, I will go back next week to get it looked at again.Because my dentist early works two days a week

Go back to see them. They could file it down. It should’ve been made specifically so should fit. Apparently there are adjustment periods with it but there are good and bad dentists and good and bad makers of dental crowns.

You dont understand. The crown was made 3 years ago and it fitted perfectly. When it came off , I think something happened to the twoth underneath, and now it feels too big, but it's the same Crown that fitted very well before

• Call your dentist right away. Do not keep biting down hard on a high crown.
• Your dentist can gently shave a tiny bit off the top or side of the crown.
• If you wait too long, the teeth can move so much that the old crown will not fit at all, and you might need a new one. 1, 2, 3]

I’d wondered about that, because when my crown broke the first replacement was too big, and my dentist said that was sometimes an issue with the moulds, but the second one was fine.

He did say, though, that if my temporary one fell off or broke I’d need to come back in asap - something about the possibility of my teeth shifting in the meantime. Maybe that’s what’s happened to the OP.

Yes I recently had a new crown and was convinced I couldn’t close my mouth properly. But either the crown shrank or my mouth grew because a few days later I could.

I have a crown on one of my front teeth. Once it fell out and I had it recemented on the same day. I think it’s longer after recementing than it was previously and it bothers me. It doesn’t feel different, I have a very slight overbite so my lower teeth don’t touch it but I think it looks different. I can’t prove it, it’s a very subtle difference but I think it’s there.

What you have just said does not apply to ne. I have not had a replacement made. I have had the original Crown, put back on

My Crown did not break, it just fell off and it was perfectly alright, so he was able to put the same Crown back. So my situation is not the same as yours.

Your mouth will feel tiny changes. Particularly initially. It won’t be back in exactly the same position as before. Your mouth also got used to it not being there.

If the contact and bite is right, then you’ll get used to it.

It is not a tiny change. It is too big. I don't know how many times I have to keep saying this. It is far too big and it needs adjusting.. The Crown is on the left hand side and when I bite down the teeth on the right hand side do not bite together. Obviously because The Crown is too big. I cannot cope with this Crown anymore.So when the dentist is next in i have been advised to phone first thing on the day and get an emergency on the day appointment and going on that day. And he can try and sort it out, because I cannot cope with this anymore. Because it is too uncomfortable and it is not going to get any better

I’ve had this. It was because my gum was also a bit swollen. My crown was ok once my gum had settled down. If this isn’t what you think is happening with you, then you’ll have to go back to the dentist when he’s next available. Teeth are in such tiny spaces that a fraction of an mm can make a massive difference to how it fits.

let’s be logical. It’s the same crown so how can it suddenly be too big? It can’t have grown. What’s more likely to have happened is that your mouth adapted to the lack of crown and your bite changed slightly. Your mouth will just need time to adjust to having a crown in there again

Opposing teeth can start over -erupting once a crown is lost almost immediately, and as other posters have alluded to, even very slight changes (by fractions of millimetres) can feel quite profound.
