I keep pulling a muscle during orgasm (I think)!

So strange, so annoying, and if I have to seek medical advice so embarrassing but... I think I keep pulling a muscle when I, er, orgasm 😬

It's happened three times now. Feels likes my pelvic floor muscle spasming or something, and it really hurts. Then after a day or two it goes like any other muscle pull. And then it has happened again!

Anyone else had this? It's come out of nowhere and I'd quite like it to not happen again! Dr Google has given a range of potential things but tells me it's probably not serious enough to talk to a doctor about it (thank God because I don't want to die, particularly of embarrassment) but it is annoying.

A neighbour of ours had this happen but to her neck and it then led on to another injury as she couldn't turn properly and fell over some weeks later. I don't have a solution but wish you well

Ritaskitchen · 21/08/2026 22:05

Could it be an overly tight pelvic floor ? It’s a thing . Could also be hormonal

Flannelfeet · 21/08/2026 22:16

Must be a good shag then 🤭🤣.

I had a good old time with dh a few weeks ago 3am ish and his cousins wife had to pop in in the morning to sort my make up for a wedding and my legs were still vibrating 😳. I blamed it on the gin and lack of sleep 😬🤣. You will ne ok in a couple of days 😆.

A shag of any kind would be nice. I have been by myself (since 2018 but specifically the last fortnight!).

I have been ok in a couple of days, but it's happened three times now and I'd quite like not to wait a couple of days to be ok again every time!

That would make sense. Is there a way to loosen my pelvic floor then?!

I thought hormones maybe too, because the first time was just before ovulation. But subsequent times have not been, and there are no other hormonal symptoms of anything else (everything else is normal in my life that could be affected by hormones).

It's a mystery.

Work on strengthening your core and your glutes as well as squeezing the pelvic floor muscles

God it sounds like hard work, ha! I wish there was an alternative way that involved a glass of wine and maybe some Dairy Milk?

Just go to the dr and tell them? Cant be more embarrassing than me telling dr Mills and boon (hes quite a looker) that I have to massage my left butt cheek and leg every night because ive got restless legs and sciatica 🤣.

I will if I have to but I'm hoping it will either magically go away or someone will give me the cure on here!

It's never happened before and nothing else has changed so I'm hoping it will go as mysteriously as it arrived. Three times running though is getting annoying.

No advise OP but sympathy as I quite often get a headache at the moment of orgasm, puts me right off!

Mischance · 21/08/2026 22:47

Where exactly is the pain? Orgasm can sometimes spark off rectal spasm.

I had those when I was younger. They started and stopped randomly as well, in my early 20s. My sympathy to you.

Are you definitely not pregnant? This was an early pregnancy symptom for me.

It's in my pelvis. Basically the contractions occur when I have my orgasm, and it's like I pull a muscle there in that moment. As they ease off it hurts as if I've pulled a muscle, and then it's been gradually less strained for a day or two until back to normal.
Not my bum like a presume a rectal spasm is! That sounds even less pleasant!

I have had this before on and off for a few periods. No idea what makes it stop, but just wanted to say you're not alone.

I think you need to step away from the playing the banjo and let everything rest and heal. If this still happens then pick a good GP to go see and try not speak as if in a 70s carry on film.

Good luck

mswales · 22/08/2026 00:30

I get this ever since having a rectocele prolapse and get it also sometimes when I have the runs (sorry but we are already way beyond TMI!) so I think mine is a rectal spasm or at least the bit of my pelvic floor that holds the rectum up! Mine goes over the course of minutes or half an hour though. It's so painful, I wouldn't be able to carry on usual activities. It doesn't happen after every orgasm but I get it at other random times. Sometimes it wakes me from my sleep. I saw a gynaecologist who said the prolapse had fixed itself and he didn't know what could be causing the painful spasming, and just recommended I do pelvic floor exercises.

There is an overactive pelvic floor thing you can get which causes it to spasm, have a look at that. Good luck, I know how annoying it is to fear your orgasms will trigger this pain!

Playing the banjo 🤣🤣🤣
@Queenjames @HangingOver I got the orgasm headaches too, they've decreased over the years thank fuck but have never entirely gone away. Aaanyway I think a bit of abstinence is the best idea. If it's muscular, you've gotta let that heal. Give it a fortnight and then, y'know, all power to your elbow :)

Thanks. Yes, that seems like the thing to try. To be clear it's not like I'm 'playing the banjo' whilst it still feels sore to begin with. Each time it's felt fine again, but then gone again after. But I will leave it a couple of weeks as suggested.

I'm sorry you get yours but they do sound different to mine both in location and type. Mine aren't that painful, just noticeable like a muscle strain. When I got the headaches when I was younger (it only happened a few times but I still remember) they were really intense - like the intensity of an orgasm but pain not pleasure. And they had gone again seconds later. It was honestly like an anti-orgasm!
But these feel genuinely like a muscle pull. Mild pain that turns into an ache and then goes after a couple of days. If I was doing anything differently to normal I'd assume it was that but I'm not.

I did think this... I'm not accusing the PP of fibbing but even though I am friendly with my neighbours I'm not going to be talking to them about this!

Of course it is, she will need a pelvic exam...
