Recs for Oct half-term city break from Manchester w/ elderly parents

Have you flown anywhere from Manchester in Oct half-term that you'd recommend for a 4-ish day city-ish break?

It would be family of four inc two tweens, plus two fairly elderly parents - one very mobile and the other fine but slow (80yrs). We'd want some history/architecture, a gallery or two, and just somewhere nice to spend some time hanging out and eating good food. Ideally we'd stay in a hotel maybe with half-board but that need not be set in stone.

Any suggestions welcome please!

Gothenburg? It’s close and Liseberg theme park is great.

Food is good I thought but tbf it’s very expensive to eat out.

We did Malaga. My elderly parents used the tourist train to access the castle, we went to galleries etc. and the food was fabulous!

Let me know if you decide to go because I've got lots of restaurant recommendations but basically a beautiful old moorish Centre but also a nice port within walking distance, shops restaurants etc. we loved it.
easy transfer too.
