Work or Dinner: Which Is Worse?

What do you dread more: going to work every (work)day or planning and making dinner every day?

Because I’m so sick of the latter! šŸ˜…

Neither thankfully

Rizzz · 21/08/2026 15:31

Planning dinner can be a ball ache but I don't dread either that or work.

It used to be work until I retired, and now I'm sick of making dinner!

I love work but have a fussy family who all
go out a lot in the evenings so menu planning is a pain.

PatioDwellers · 21/08/2026 15:34

I'm sick of making dinner - well the thinking, planning, shopping about food.

I love food.

And my DH cooks fairly happily, shops slightly less willingly and often asks for a list.

It just seems never bloody ending and I often end up buying (posh) ready meals as then at least he'll put the bloody things in the oven or microwave.

Work - well that's just work.

I was about to say exactly the same thing! When I retired, I was determined not to cook anything like as often. Unfortunately, there are only so many microwave meals and takeaways my budget - and health - will stand, so I’ve gone back to cooking. The menu is deliberately simpler and more limited in variety, but I’m happy with the compromise.

I don’t dread making dinner, it’s just dinner. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just relatively healthy. Luckily my kids eat anything.
Don’t dread going to work, I have a wonderful job working with wonderful people. I look forward to working.

How many are you cooking for @wand3rer ? And do they never cook for you?

Me and my teenage boy. He is a little fussy, but not extremely so.

Our biggest constraint is that we hate food waste (so I do small shops to prevent fresh ingredients going bad) and we have a tiny freezer (so using frozen vegs or batch cooking isn’t really possible)

I don't think cooking for two or more makes much of a difference to me (within reason!). It was the same when all my kids were home.

He has a disorder that would make it unsafe for him to cook.

Anyway, I meant it as a light-hearted poll, not an existential question! 😁

Definitely work. But I love cooking and it's actually how I decompress after work. Plus I hate work šŸ˜„

Toastersandkettles · 21/08/2026 20:27

I'm sick of bloody food! I feel like I spend my life planning food, buying food, making food, cleaning up after food. I've told DH that when the DCs leave home we are eating nothing but ready meals and takeaways.

Morepositivemum · 21/08/2026 20:29

Work- definitely!!!!
