Can a property manager access a tenant’s previous address if the flat is rented through an agent?

Hi all,

I recently moved to a new part of town, renting a flat through a letting agents. The other day I received a welcome text message from the flat’s property manager who manages all the flats in the block. I didn’t provide them with my number so not sure how they have it.

I am wondering if the property management also have access to a tenant’s other details such as referee address from previous property? I have good references but I’m not too comfortable with them knowing my previous address/ the referee’s address since the property manager of my new place may know my ex partner who lives in that same (very small) part of town and I’m trying to keep that secret!

Thanks for your advice!

You're overthinking it

No. The people who manage the block of flats I have a tenant in are entirely separate to the estate agents who put the tenant there. But I would expect the managing agents need contact details for you and your landlord/letting agent would have provided that. Anything else would be a breach of privacy I imagine.

Contact the letting agent and ask them to clarify which details they have passed on to the landlord/managing agent.
