Best way for my student daughter to treat head lice alone?

21 year old daughter has just messaged to say she’s caught headlice from someone.
best advice for dealing with it on her own. She’s 100 miles away at uni so I can’t help with combing.
not sure which product to recommend.
she has thick long hair. Just conditioner and nit comb? Nothing that smells or makes hair greasy 😬 thank you

Not common at uni no, it’s not something she needs to worry about.

I used one of the over-the counter treatments and combined that with combing my hair through almost every day. I think the Nitty Gritty comb is the best. It's a bit of a pain if you have long, thick hair, but she will defeat them eventually.

dry comb with a standard plastic nit comb I got loads of smaller ones with the dry comb despite having wet combing the previous night,
section the hair for combing and repeat the combing daily.

If your DD has caught it whilst at uni, chances are other people there have it too. As it’s hard to delouse yourself, could she and friend not offer to do each other? Make a night of it, watch a film with the treatment/ conditioner in ?

I was disappointed by it. I found Superdrug own brand to be the best with a nitty gritty comb. I did literal months of combing my daughters' hair with conditioner, spending absolutely ages every time while they watched too much TV. Don't know if we all kept reinfecting each other or if the problem was at school but I would always find one lone louse on one of the three of us and so the combing continued on and on and on. Used the chemicals (Superdrug, as above) and it was sorted.

When my DD had head lice, the only thing that eventually worked was to do a treatment (we used Full Marks), then repeat 5 days later, then repeat again 5 days after that. A pain to do, but fixed the problem, as it killed anything that was missed and got rid of any lice that had hatched since the last treatment.

Lots of combing and conditioner just didn't do the trick for her, as she had long, thick hair, and it was too easy to miss a louse- and even missing just one meant that it all started again.
