I’ve been listening to the podcast “ The Gift” each episode is about unexpected revelations from at home DNA tests. The name is due to how these tests are given casually as Christmas/ birthday presents but can have huge and family wide impacts. The start of every episode says that secrets of parentage will always come out now, whether a child is adopted, raised by a father that isn’t a genetic parent, born of an affair etc
Anyway while pondering these revelations I remembered a school friend whose Dad looked incredibly like Prince Charles, I looked up his Facebook and he still does and there’s that look in his daughter too. At the time 30 years ago he told me jokingly there was a family rumour that his grandmother had worked in a role that brought her into contact with Prince Phillip.
I wondered if Royal DNA is heavily protected because of this sort of situation, I can’t imagine they could go on ancestry and find Beatrice as a half cousin, but surely at some point with so many people doing these tests , someone maybe able to draw a line to possible royal blood. I just found it interesting to think how so many families turned out to have secrets but for the royals, will they be able to control this new data?
