When you had your first mammogram, was it what you expected?

I had no idea. I imagined I'd stand in front of a screen like having an xray, or while a scanner passed over me.

I'd seen video of it on news channels/tv programmes so yes, I had a very good idea what they'd do.

FeliciaFancybottom · 20/08/2026 13:35

Yes, because I'd spoken to my mum and female friends about them.

Beachpleeese · 20/08/2026 13:36

I knew it would squeeze, but f*ck me, that was something else!

I didn’t have an idea ,, I didn’t find it painful ,

Thingsthatgo · 20/08/2026 13:42

Yes, because my mum, sister and friends had talked to me about it over the years.

piscofrisco · 20/08/2026 13:42

Last Sunday. It hurt.

This...

...but you must keep going - i just got diagnosed with breast cancer from a regular screening, and catching it early is so important

Gengha · 20/08/2026 13:43

It was fine, I thought it would be sorer though. I hadn’t expected just how big my boobs would be squeezed out like that though!

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 20/08/2026 13:43

My mum had made out it was a fate worse than death. It wasn't pleasant, by any means, but not horrendous either

MrTiddlesTheCat · 20/08/2026 13:43

I was told it's harder if you have small breasts. Mine hang down to my knees so I just slap them on the plate and off we go.

AnitaCam · 20/08/2026 13:44

I was so so impressed by how quick and professional it was. Very relieved.

Yes. Unpleasant, uncomfortable, over quickly, no lasting discomfort.

Coinkidinki · 20/08/2026 13:56

I didn't realise it would be done from more than one angle but other than that it was as expected.

I was impressed by the efficiency of the routine over-50s screening service.

SpiralSister · 20/08/2026 14:00

Ah yes - the titty mangle! Unpleasant but fleeting. And gets less painful as you get older, as your breast tissue gets less dense, apparently.

Well, actually, looking at my deflated chest..(sobs)

MyManinCaracas · 20/08/2026 14:02

I had one yesterday and it wasn’t painful but in the past they’ve been unpleasant. I’m not sure what the difference was but maybe she didn’t squeeze them as much?
