Can someone help me understand these 2 questions?

I'm trying to fill in this form. But I'm stuck on theses questions.

  1. How often do you feel overly active and compelled to do things.

My head feels active. Inside my head it feels rushed like everything is fast within my thoughts and thinking. If i get an idea in my head I feel like I have to do it. Because it won't leave my head till I do. But thats more like projects. Basically my mind rushes but I don't match it physically. So is question 6 talking about just physically?

Then question 14
How often do you have difficulty unwinding and relaxing when you have time to yourself.

So with that when they say relaxing and unwinding. Do they mean physically or thoughs as well . Because its similar to what i say above in my head I feel constantly rushed. But not physically.

Obviously no one can answer for me. But I think I'm reading the questions in a few different ways.

Is this a form for mental health/anxiety?

I don't understand? Are you saying i shouldn't ask on here?

O would answer exactly how you’ve typed here.

It’s not for you to try and answer how you think the person wants you to, it’s their job to interpret what you’ve written and all information is relevant regardless if it’s what they meant by the question or not.

Does that make sense?

It seems a straightforward question tbh.

Unlike the ones in your Op which aren’t particularly clear. It’s hard to tell if it’s trying to ascertain whether you’re physically or mentally overactive. The PP’s question seems to be trying to clarify the aim of the questions to be able to advise better.

GentleSheep · 20/08/2026 13:07

How often do you feel overly active and compelled to do things.

That can mean mentally as well as physically. You can feel compelled without actually doing those things. My take on it!

How often do you have difficulty unwinding and relaxing when you have time to yourself.

I would say that applies to both mentally and physically, possibly with the emphasis on mentally, at least that's how I would understand it.

mynameiscalypso · 20/08/2026 13:07

I assume that this is some sort of ADHD assessment? It’s useful to know the context because that probably helps to interpret the questions. I think the questions are linked - are you able to just sit down and relax and do nothing for a bit? I also assume that the questions are graded and aren’t yes/no so it will depend how frequently, if ever, you feel like that.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 20/08/2026 13:07

If it’s an open form then I agree with the above, just put whatever you’ve written here. If it’s answer a) very often b) quite often etc then it’s not so easy

Inalittlepickle321 · 20/08/2026 13:07

You said these questions are for a form.

I am trying to help by understanding what sort of form these are on.

Of course you can ask on here 😊

TreesAtSea · 20/08/2026 13:08

Hi OP, I'd assume they're asking how it feels to you emotionally, i.e. in your mind. So for that first question, your answer would be "Very" and for the second one "Often".

shellyleppard · 20/08/2026 13:11

It sounds like a counselling questionnaire? I have similar before my appointment

Its a tick box of never rarely sometimes often very often.

If it wasn't tick box i would have just written what I wrote here. I hate tick box things

Oh I’ve just had to do this, and now questioning if I’ve answered incorrectly. I assumed it was for physical so put rarely whereas as my mind is racing constantly

I meant to say "Frequently", not "Often", for the second example.

Arregaithel · 20/08/2026 13:19

@Whyohwhy99 this is from a self report questionnaire presumably?

"How often do you feel overly active and compelled to do things?"
evaluates physical and mental hyperactivity, specifically targeting the sensation of being constantly "on the go".

This question identifies an internalized or externalized state of constant urgency where your mind or body struggles to find a baseline of stillness.

"How often do you have difficulty unwinding and relaxing when you have time to yourself?"
evaluates internal hyperactivity and your nervous system's ability to downshift into a state of rest.

This question aims to differentiate between physical fatigue and an overactive mind. For individuals without ADHD, free time naturally leads to relaxation. For individuals with ADHD, a lack of structured tasks can cause a feeling of restlessness.

Good luck 🌻

Sounds like the Conner’s questionnaire?

In that case I would answer based on both physically and mentally.

Later on you’ll get a chance to qualify the answers. Right now they just want to quantify how much you have these constant compelling thoughts feelings and motives.

@itsgettingweird No, it's not Conners Rating Scale, it's from the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1)

I find it hugely ironic that ADHD forms have tick boxes, as if that suits anyone with ADHD.

The fact your form is a mess when you hand it in will probably tell them more than the actual answers to the questions. 😆

Absolutely no need to apologise.

It’s starting to become proven I believe that there’s a crossover and parallels in behaviour and thought patterns in ADHD and anxiety/Complex-PTSD, hence my question.

Glad you are sorted on this x
