Which velux blind?

I need some advice. We're moving my son up to the loft conversion bedroom and want to replace the blinds on velux windows. Question is which ones would you recommend? Ideally up there we want blackout and also anything that can reduce heat. What have you found really great? Inside or outside? Any ways also to block light when windows are open for air? If any reduce heat do they do so to the extent we wouldnt need an air con unit up there in a heatwave and could just use a fan? Don't mind paying more if that is the case. Thankyou! Plus, Would you recommend getting them from Velux or elsewhere?

We have standard black out blinds on the velux and this year we installed an external solar heat minimiser film from a specialist firm (non-velux) on the outside of the window panes. Cost approx £500 for 2 velux windows to have the film installed. Last year summer was unbearable up there and kid moved downstairs to sleep on a floor mattress in our room for the summer. This year, the window film plus a better fan it has been fine (despite being a hotter summer). Huge difference in temp!

No answer for reducing the light intake when the windows are open. We keep them closed in the day, open a crack at bedtime then throw them wide open once kid is asleep (5yo) to let the heat escape.

Thanks so much. It's great that the film made such an impact on temperature!

My tip is to look at Vale blinds - they do all the Velux sizing and offer great blackout options (plus electric and solar ones too) but are far cheaper! Great colour range too.

We have blackout with a twin opaque one. Brilliant.

Velux do an external awning that rolls up into the frame.

Thankyou for the advice!
