Men only gym

Proverbs 21.17 Men Only Gym (Oklahoma). To help men avoid the temptation of lust. Which in itself is pathetic.

What's the betting it turns into a gay gym with a sauna / shower room 'fun shack' completely undermining the intention 😂😂😂?

There are hundreds of videos posted by women on Instagram of perfectly innocent men who have glanced their way in the gym and then been accused of inappropriately staring or perving or whatever when they have done absolutely nothing of the sort. I can understand why some men might like men only gyms to avoid that kind of accusation to be honest.

Ive seen quite a few of those. The women dress in revealing outfits hoping to get stares and then when they don’t they just slow down footage of any man’s glance to make it look worse. It’s bad what people will do for social media.

So women must suffer and be excluded from life just cos men can’t keep it in their pants? How about men try to hold themselves to a higher moral bar than rutting farm animals?

Silence, the youngster just discovered how Muslim and other religion-based societies work...

Woman don’t have the same opportunities though because ‘women’ means women and men in dresses.
Women want their own spaces but Men don’t allow women to have their own spaces but they do feel entitled to their own.

To be fair, most religious men would fall firmly on the side of being gender critical - I don't think you're likely to find many cheerleaders of men being allowed into single-sex female spaces amongst their specific core clientele.

Best place for men who can't control their lust absolutely is a male only gym IMO No chance of them sexually assaulting women there @Slightyamusedandsilly.

We don't have single sex gyms here at all, there are some time slots that are for specific groups but we do at least have single sex changing rooms for them. In spite of the local TIA+ group trying to demand access to the wrong sex facilities, they are enforced.

Lust may mean a wide spectrum of things to different people, but where do you get the idea that they're at risk of sexually assaulting women? Yes, they're obviously saying that they don't want to have sexual feelings that they personally find unwelcome and unhelpful; but it's rather a massive leap to suggest that their motivation is mainly in physically preventing them from actually assaulting women, rather than just in 'remaining pure of thought' as they would likely see it.

WerewolfOfLoudon · 20/08/2026 14:26

Whether they are at risk or not @ParsleySageToiletDuckAndBinBags if there are no women in the gym, they can’t harass them or objectifying them either.

If men are going to cheat on their wives, or have impure thoughts, a male only gym isn't going to stop them.

BirdLandedonmyHead · 20/08/2026 14:31

Well if it keeps predatory men away from women im all for it.

Fucking hell. Can anyone win in your world?

I don't understand what you're trying to say. Win what? My world?
The founder said he needs to be kept away from women so he wouldn't cheat, not sure where the winning is.

I'm not sure there are men only gyms in London. There are definitely men only saunas, which sometimes also have a gym............but exercise may not be the reason men go

There are a few, for example from the website of one of them:

"Since 1985 Bodyworks Gym in Tottenham, North London has been providing a wide range of clients with the ability to improve their physique using the latest high-quality equipment. As the largest gym in London, we boast over 16,000 square feet for our male-only clientele which is fully equipped with all you need to lift, train and exercise your whole body."

Slightyamusedandsilly · 20/08/2026 10:58

It's more the 'help men avoid lust' factor I was LOLing at actually. The implication that they can't control themselves at all.

I do not advocate for women only settings actually. While I'm a raving feminist, I think men should aspire to be the equal of women. Controlling their lust should be part and parcel of being an adult human.

I think you’re missing some nuance here. This gym is clearly aligned with evangelical Christianity (the bible reference in the name, the fact it’s in Oklahoma…) Evangelical Christians believe not only that cheating on your spouse is a sin, but that looking at someone lustfully is also a sin, even if you have the self control not to act on it. The word “lustfully” doesn’t mean “like a farmyard animal” but any kind of romantic feeling to someone you’re not married to.

So in other words, for them seeing an attractive woman in workout clothing in the gym and having the slightest stirring of feelings is itself sinful, even if they immediately turn away and behave impeccably. That’s what they’re trying to avoid.

Like a PP, I find it a bit of an impractical way to live, but at least they are choosing to segregate themselves rather than demanding women cover up and stay indoors.

See, I don’t think this is particularly fair. Deep down, men are wired to rut like farm animals, just as women are wired to pop out as many babies as they can. We know this, because they continue to have babies in the most dire circumstances, when logic would tell them otherwise.

Men also have a brain which can stop them rutting as otherwise how would they work?. Women also use bith control to stop them having a baby every year. We are more then our biology.

Disturbia81 · 20/08/2026 16:33

Why can’t they just… control themselves?

SpaceShark · 20/08/2026 16:36

Why are you bothered and why is it laughable to you? It's good for men to have their own spaces and quite honestly I think single sex gyms are a good idea. And what is wrong with men avoiding sexual lust or temptation? Such a bizarre thing to scoff about.

They can, but they can't control their thoughts.

It's the lustfull thoughts that they are trying to avoid.

We are more than our biology, but our behaviour is strongly influenced by our behaviour, by ‘design’. Here’s an example I read a few minutes ago.

They don't smell like sweaty jockstraps though, do they?

But they do smell equally as bad though...

BillieWiper · 20/08/2026 17:12

How do you know it isn't a gay gym from the start? The name could easily be tongue in cheek. If so it's quite funny.

It's fair enough anyway for each sex to have single sex spaces.

Can we? Can you contol a thought that somebody is attractive? No matter how fleeting it may be?

Try being a vulnerable woman on a postnatal ward, recovering from having a baby, bleeding and trying to establish breast feeding with a man sleeping with only a curtain between you...

And men think THEY have problems...

I had this situation minus the curtain!

Wow, you can control what your eyes see and your immediate response to everything?! It doesn't make you any less of a human to experience normal human feelings and innate human responses.

"This gym is clearly aligned with evangelical Christianity "

Just going off at a bit of a tangent, but this is basically how the YMCA started out.

This was an offshoot of 'muscular Christianity', which was a movement that began back in the mid 19th century. At the time it was believed that physical training built stamina necessary to perform service for others and that physical strength led to moral strength and good character.

Thomas Hughes - author of 'Tom Brown's Schools Days - wrote about this. He said:

"The Muscular Christians have hold of the old chivalrous and Christian belief, that a man's body is given to him to be trained and brought into subjection, and then used for the protection of the weak, the advancement of all righteous causes, and the subduing of the earth which God has given to the children of men."

There were a number of YMCA gyms and boxing clubs in London in the late 19th century.

I'd love a women-only gym. Men take up so much space when they do weights and really dominate the atmosphere. Let them have their own gym, I say.

This happens at my local gym too, men thinking they can reserve a machine they're not even using by leaving their water bottle near it at busy times so they won't have to wait to do their next set. I have never seen a woman at the gym act this entitled.

SpottyAlpaca · 20/08/2026 19:05

If it’s considered perfectly reasonable for women can have women only gyms, why shouldn’t men have their own equivalents?

And the same should also apply to gold clubs, social clubs etc etc.

I was a member of a women’s only gym for years. It was brilliant and I was gutted when it closed. It was the most supportive gym I’ve ever been to, and there were women there who wouldn’t go to a mixed gym but this was perfect for them to start their fitness journey . Why wouldn’t you advocate for that?

Now I go to gym where a number of men feel that it’s acceptable to exercise topless. It’s disgusting.

If you RTFT and my posts @SpaceShark you'd see that I think single sex gyms as good and that men that can't control their urges as pathetic. Humans are supposed to have higher order cognitive processing aka be capable of thought. The idea of needing a space away from the opposite sex purely because blokes can't engage their brain instead of their penis is (in my view) pathetic.

@MaidsRoom fair enough EXCEPT as someone else on here has helpfully researched, the founder of the mens-avoid-lust-gym had an affair with a woman at another gym. So he's no paragon of virtue and clearly has no self control at all.
