Should I saw anything? What would you do if you were his boss?

My Lidl has a memebr of staff, mid 30s, who usually mans the automatic checkouts.

He brilliant, jumps to it when people need help, often before you've realised you need help, nothing's too much trouble with lifting baskets, tidying away, helping with the gate and he's lovely with entertaining the children too. It's all quite OTT, I'd guess there are some SEN but it's lovely.

But, he smells. Really awful, worse than I've experienced in a long time and I use public transport frequently!

His colleagues and manager must already know though....

Why don't you buy him a lovely gift of some chocolates and biscuits and throw in some fancy bath or shower stuff and deodorant - tell him it's for his great attitude and hard work ?

I mean, I doubt he smells because he doesn't have access to soap.....

His boss needs to have a word.
Deeply uncomfortable but it has to be done
Thats not ok.

His team & manager will absolutely know, if you can smell it so can everyone else.

You don’t need to involve yourself.

I wouldn't while colleagues in a shop may not be as physically close to someone as say office colleagues, if you've noticed, they will have.

Pleasesaynothing · 19/08/2026 14:21

What ever ? I dont really care - You asked for advice, that's what I would do !

FeliciaFancybottom · 19/08/2026 14:27

Imagine a stranger giving you a lovely gift of shower gel and deodorant, mortifying!

It's usually how someone is washing their clothes that's the issue. If you don't get the sweat smell out, it's even worse after being washed. Takes on a nasty sour smell.

This, unless they are all nose blind, which is highly unlikely. I would not say anything personally.
