First-time campervan trip in Devon: tips on where to go and what to pack

I’ve hired a campervan for 3 nights as my car is in the garage and I just thought why not! Any hints or tips, where to go (am already in Devon), what to pack in it. Never been camping before so don’t have much kit and don’t want to spend ££ as the van was expensive enough.

If you're staying in campsites, make sure there's an electric hook up cable on board. There probably will be, but I made the mistake of assuming when I first brought mine, and needed a very panicked amazon delivery to the campsites.

Also a washing line and pegs

Go somewhere that has stuff nearby you can walk to. With a campervan, presumably one you drive, not one you tow, once you’re there, you’re there. It’s not easy to leave your pitch. You’ll probably want to stay or walk places.

Think about food at the moment because not all campsites are allowing even gas stoves.

Make sure you’re comfortable reversing it and driving down narrow roads if you want to go anywhere too off the main road.

No suggestions in Devon as we live here too so don’t really holiday here, but Eweleaze Farm in Dorset is lovely. Always lots of families and you can walk to the beach and the pub.

Take, or hire, bicycles if you want to leave the campsite (other than on foot). Otherwise you can come back after a trip out in the van and find that someone has taken your space. Also, a campervan can be a bit of a nightmare in small roads without many places to park.

Is it just you travelling solo, with a partner, kids, dogs...? What sort of things do you enjoy doing, going for hikes, surfing, mooching round shops and cafes? What area of Devon are you based in usually?
