Why are they in and out of the loo?? 🧐

I’m having some work done in the house at the moment. Just some new storage units fitted so we are still in the house ourselves. We’ve had 2 different fitters coming and going in the past few days.
the first guy was only there for maybe 1hr or so taking out the existing units. He used the toilet on at least 3 occasions. He looked about mid 40s to fifty so unlikely to have prostate problems.
Second guy came this morning. Younger, maybe early 30s. Was only there about 25 minutes before I left for work and had already used the loo twice.
I don’t have any issue with workmen using the loo I know it’s non of my business but I’m intrigued.
Why are they in and out of the loo so often??

At that frequency it's almost certainly going to be crack. Everyone's on it these days.

JaneJeffer · 18/08/2026 21:01

Maybe they want to become famous on Mumsnet

Maybe they’re looking at you tube explanations of how to do the building work? 😂

lol

Just FYI...my partner got diagnosed with a benign prostate tumour late 40s...it definitely makes him need to pee little and often.

Ex was a cokehead, as were alot of his mates, they definitely are, especially if they've been using for a number of years, they tend to redose after roughly 20 minutes

Interesting about ketamine bladder - I'd never heard of it but had a guy in a group of guys working on something in the garden, he came in several times a day (more times than I need to use the bathroom and I'm a big tea drinker). I thought this is strange and now I'm thinking maybe it was this. The other guys didn't come in at all - I assumed they found a quiet spot at the top of the garden.

Edit: It wasn't you that mentioned ketamine bladder - whoops sorry! It was ketamine bladder I was referring to.

My husband is 43 and has terrible ongoing prostate issues. Being out with him is becoming quite an issue as he needs the loo so often the poor guy.

That'll be it! DS is a builder and he watches loads of those!

They might have had to do a lot of travelling after visiting your house and making sure they don't have to stop to use the toilet. I have a bit of an overactive bladder. So I go whenever there's a toilet available. I'm the same especially using public transport. I go at least 2 or 3 time's in the half hour before we leave.

andweallsingalong · 18/08/2026 21:43

Washing hands?

catsflorafauna · 18/08/2026 21:47

Definitely vape, sit down and phone check 😂😂😂 I definitely do it in my job.

Snowplop · 18/08/2026 21:48

I teach teenagers (16-19) and for them it's checking their phones and vaping. Some can't sit still for more than 20 minutes without asking for a toilet break. Those habits will no doubt continue into the workplace.

masturbating ?

Three times in an hour during the working day? 😂

At least they are in your home. And not popping out for something or other which means really they are going to another house to do some work all at the same time. Like all too many do. And hope you don’t realise. Drives me mad that.

Those shifty working-class types, eh? One simply cannot get the staff these days…

Jonno660 · 19/08/2026 08:59

It's of builders do coke but it's poor quality stuff called pub grub and would need a few shorts an hour to do anything. . if you want to putt a stop go it lightly spray all your surfaces with WD-40 which will ruin their gear. Or leave a small mirror and a razorblade in a discrete part of the room where they will find it . Think you approve and maybe offer you a line . Then you will know. What would you do a bout it,?
Best leave them to it. It's called marching Powder because it helps get jobs done . Builders are strange creatures with all sorts of habits. They could be checking on bets. Playing slots. Checking the tracker they left in their partners car. Anything they want privacy for.

I wonder what the impact on the economy and GDP for the country will be once Gen X (and possibly Millennials) age out of the workforce.

earlyshirley · 19/08/2026 09:17

No one is doing cocaine three times in an hour while putting up cupboards. What a fucking waste.

It's the coke, it makes them horny.

Gossipisgood · 19/08/2026 10:50

If they used the loo when they first arrived could they have been washing their hands. They may have had a butty in the car/van on the way to yours & needed to wash the grease/ketchup off. Second use could've been the coffee or energy drink they've had with said butty taking affect & they needed a wee. Or could be they were out the night before & feel a bit fragile & felt sick a couple of times so went to the loo instead of launching all over your kitchen. Or could be they just wanted a skive for a few minutes coz they were bored & wanted to sit on the loo seat to check their phone or send messages.

If they re doing Coke it must be shite to need to sniff 3 times in an hour lol.

Theresalittlebitofwitchinyou · 19/08/2026 10:52

Erm drinking a lot of water/tea/coffee?

Frumpitydoo · 19/08/2026 10:55

Loads of tradies are total coke heads. Especially plasterers!

Plumnora · 19/08/2026 11:09

My mind immediately went to coke and I was really surprised not everyone else thought the same!! Showing my age I guess because in the 90s it would be a given that that's what they'd be up to!

SweetnsourNZ · 19/08/2026 11:14

Poppycorn123 · 18/08/2026 18:09

Physical work and warm weather surely makes them thirsty so they are probably drinking loads.

If its hot they could be drinking cold energy drinks too.

Paganpentacle · 19/08/2026 11:18

40/50s bloke....could be OAB/BPH.
Younger one.... Ket bladder?

Catza · 19/08/2026 13:39

My ex is a builder. Every morning he started with collecting his "crew" and then they went to get a coffee before work. Then, they picked up another coffee on a way to the job. As a "two-cups before the workday" myself, I am barely able to get through the first hour at work without going once or twice. Then, it's been hot, so I've been drinking a lot more water which means more trips to the loo. If I drink fizzy water or any fizzy drink, it's game over. I may as well take my laptop to the bathroom and camp there for the day.

Catza · 19/08/2026 13:47

Why does it drive you mad? I am currently doing some DIY work on my house (not a builder but spent most of my life around them - father, uncle, partners...). I skimmed the wall the other day, it takes 4h to dry before it can be sanded. So I went to another room and put some wood filler in the floor cracks. This takes 45 minutes to dry before it's ready to sand. Off to the next small job before I go back to the original task. Floor stain takes 4h before it can be de-nibbed and second coat put on, then 24h wait until it's dry before I can polish it. And I am quite happy to sit there and watch the paint dry because it's my own house. But the builder will charge you for the privilege of doing so. Instead, they only charge you for time on site and they can go and do another job elsewhere instead of watching your plaster set overnight.
