If you volunteer, do you feel valued?

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying about thanks or praise, more that in a volunteer role I do and have done for a few years, the email messaging is very bossy, like you're an employee do this do that. They are always hassling you to do extra shifts and things like that. I have a job and not the time to take on any more. Getting a bit fed up with it.

Yes.

Not always by the people, but by the animals I help, yes. Seeing them get back to what they should be after abuse and neglect is lovely.

Most of the people, meh.

That sounds very worthwhile @ThisCouldBeTheEndOfEverything

I only do a few hours volunteering one evening a week. I feel quite appreciated by the organisation and enjoy working with the other volunteers. I do occasionally get requests to do extra but they don’t mind if you say no.

Littletreefrog · 17/08/2026 17:49

Sometimes yes other times I feel taken for granted.

I do two and in both cases yes. Not praised to the skies but I know in one I make a real difference to disabled clients as I started doing it when a parent used the service and continued after they died, the other is a community service and I know that by me being there the only paid employee can get on with the important stuff whilst I do the day to day stuff.

Batties · 17/08/2026 18:08

By other volunteers, yes. By the central organisation not so much. I used to until the last year or two. They are planning huge changes to our way of working but without taking into account the views of the majority of volunteers.

paddleboardingmum · 17/08/2026 18:35

That's the thing @Batties if you were an employee its possible they might have asked. My one does things like that too and then bossy emails about it.
