Weird item in mailbox

I live on a lovely, rural road in Canada. We have a mailbox (just for our house) at the end of our drive. Canada Post and couriers deliver to it. I last checked it on Friday afternoon. Sunday evening, we get home from a day out and my 12 year old checked the mailbox because we were expecting a parcel.

He found a ziploc bag containing a couple of spoonfuls of an opaque, cream-coloured liquid. Looked like cream actually. Nothing written on it, and it been delivered by hand, not by the postie or a courier. We did not open the bag. There was no particular smell. I checked with our four immediate neighbours - they did not receive anything weird in their mailboxes. Nor did they see anything.

WTF is it, and why was it in our mailbox? I'm struggling to think of an innocent explanation, or even a sinister one. Just very, very weird.

kefir starter?

My friend thought maybe sourdough starter...but if either of these things why wouldn't whoever left it leave a note???

Do you still have the bag? Sourdough starter has an easily identifiable smell especially if it's been left at outdoor temps for more than a day. It would smell almost unpleasantly acidic like vinegar or nail polish remover. If it doesn't smell like anything then it's not a starter.

Another outlandish explanation might be kids making slime. Some kids might just have been messing around and ended up with a baggie of slime. Then they decided to hide it or post it in a mailbox. If it's slime then it would probably smell plasticky like glue or paint.

Or it could be leftover shampoo or body lotion that someone took with them on a camping trip. It might have fallen onto the ground near the postbox and someone placed it inside thinking it belonged to your house.

Perhaps someone else is expecting it, do your neighbours have mailboxes too?

Am I the only one thinking some weirdo has jizzed in a bag and shoved it in the mailbox? (I'd sincerely hope not but you never know).

Jizz was my first thought too.

I third that. Although that can have a distinct smell too

Phew I'm not the only one who thought it at least. There's definitely some odd people out there who would probably do this. I remember someone sending my step sister a sausage in the post years ago just because she'd joked about small sausages

See, this is why we didn't open the bag. You just never know!

Definitely kefir or sourdough starter as a teaspoon is all you need. They’ve got the wrong house. Just chuck it out. Plenty more where that came from if they realise their error. They aren’t going to come calling to ask for it back.

Mystery has been solved...it's worm medicine for chickens. Obvious really.

I was thinking about it, and we have occasionally got mail for a neighbour with a similar house number and vice versa (think 123 vs 132). So I went to that house and asked if they knew anything about it.

Apparently an acquaintance had a large bottle of worm medicine and agreed to drop off a small amount for their five chickens to save them buying a huge bottle of it. They just dropped it in the wrong mailbox - even although our mailbox has our surname as well as the house number on it.

😂😂😂 I’m dying because if we got a dodgy delivery of something odd like this, it would totally be wormer for the chickens too. 🤣
