16yo niece going away present

My 16yo niece is moving down south to attend a rowing sixth form, she has all her meal catered for and isn't allowed to leave campus apart from travelling home every 3 weeks. Looking for a nice going away gift but all uni related going away gifts ideas are cook books or practical things where she's looked after. Any ideas?

It depends the kind of thing she would like but I would say something comforting for her room. A nice blanket or cushion for her bed or a Jellycat toy etc. or maybe some jewellery?

Whats ur budget? Take her on a shopping spree. There is no teenage girl who has enough clothes/bags/shoes/cosmetics! I wouldnt go with a physical gift unless it’s something you are absolutely sure she will love

I would have said some sort of big hoodie or jumper, or a blanket for her bed - but definitely take her somewhere to buy it (or ask her to choose!) as that is also a big part of the present (and so easy to get it wrong with them at that age)

Save money for therapy sessions- sounds like they are sending her to prison! Not allowed into the real world for weeks at a time? That’s crazy. What teenager doesn’t leave a small perimeter for that long?

I was a sporty teen who went to a similar college in a different sport. My niece likewise.

Both with ZERO interest in shoes/bags/cosmetics etc.

A kindle

Thinking of my very sporty DD, I'd second a Kindle or other e-reader or vouchers if she already has one. if it's not waterproof, a waterproof case.
Clothes - a comfy hoody/trouser combo - but ask her to choose!
Blanket or one of those soft toy/cushion things that were in all the shops last Christmas! Depends if she has to travel with limited luggage or not.
I wouldn't buy DD a bag without checking it works for what she wants it for.

I dont believe there is nothing you can set a budget on and go together to enjoy and make some memories. And finish with a meal together.

Or you could tell her you want to get something but don't know what. If she also doesn't have a suggestion, you could offer to wait until she starts and if there's something everyone else has that she wants, and send it to her!

Can you get her tickets to a show or a gig she would enjoy attending? Could be something that's happening soon or a show she'll have to wait for a bit but it would still be a great gift. Could be planned along with her visiting home so that there wouldn't be any problems with her leaving the campus.
Things related to her favorite artist(s) like merch items, clothing, something for her room with them like a wall calendar poster or accessories
Makeup items, hair accessories, perfume (or a gift card to a makeup/perfume sections so that she could choose something she likes)
Good headphones, portable charger, phone accessories like a ring light or a nice case
Does she have a Kindle? Could be a great idea as well or you can get her a book club subscription if she likes reading and they'll send her a new book every month.
