I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in the conservatory, with both cats! Won't be long before girl heads back up to dd2, I'm sure. I'll sit here a while longer, sort my tablets & tidy the table.

Dd1's out to work already, she's at Southwell (ladies day, I think) so won't be back til late. Probably after I head to bed.

Dd2 has promised me an hour of help in the garden so that's her plan 🤣. I think she also has a little bit of summer work to finish for college so I'll double check on that & suggest she finishes it then she has 2 weeks to check it over.

I'm getting back out in the garden again. My dad's got me some pegs for the weed membrane so he's coming to help lay it tomorrow. The further up I can get with stripping the bindweed, the better!

I'll crochet for a while too, I'm making very slow progress on my current project & would like to switch it but it's not for me so I'll plod on.

Not a clue what's for tea - I forgot to get anything out, and no-one else remembers ever so 🤷‍♀️. Freezer surprise it is! Maybe something with salad.

What about all of you? 🙂

Meant to be going to a relatives for the night en route to holiday tomorrow. We were meant to go yesterday but DD12 refused to get out of bed. About to wake her up now to try again.

kalokagathos · 16/08/2026 09:32

Had lovely breakfast with strong coffee after High Intensity Interval Training in the basement half an hour ago as missed getting up for bootcamp in the local park. Will go for a nice walk in the woods, do some admin work, and wake up my 17yo to go visit her great grandma in St Leonard’s in Sea care home (90 mins drive both ways). May treat ourselves to a lovely seafront lunch at our favourite family ran Italian restaurant there after that:)

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I had a sleepless night and have only just woken up with a headache... so not the best start!

I got everything done I had planned to do yesterday, which was good, so this morning I'm going to clean and tidy far-away daughter's bedroom for when she comes down with Houdini next weekend. I have a new duvet cover and pillowcase for her room, so I'm hoping she will appreciate that! Her room (the spare room) tends to be the dumping ground for clean laundry that doesn't really have a home right at the moment... so all that will need to have homes found for it and be put away. It all feels a bit daunting, but actually there isn't that much to do and it probably won't take more than an hour to get everything done and it looking beautiful. Then I will shut the door on it until she gets here.

I have soup to make from the chicken stock I made yesterday, and I will probably have that for lunch. Mr Dilemma will sort himself out. He never knows what he wants so we rarely have the same thing for lunch. I got what I thought was a cooked chicken breast out of the freezer yesterday which was going to be my supper today - with salad - but it is not, in fact, cooked, so I think I will get the tomato and mascarpone sauce out of the freezer and we will both have it with pasta, and the chicken and some bacon (also out of the freezer) to make it more tasty. And probably a LOT of garlic as well. The ratatouille I made yesterday was a really good one and I have a little left - if it was just me I would mix that in as well but Mr Dilemma doesn't like it at all, so that's a no-go. I might put it in with my soup although I was planning on more like a thin (but tasty) broth. Still, waste not want not!

Mr Dilemma has been making noises about getting a new bookcase for the sitting room. Since he doesn't read (at all, ever) and doesn't see the attraction of reading at all and has, over the years, managed to get me to whittle down my books hugely, this is a BIG THING! He has his eye on a (nasty, flimsy) white one on Amazon, but we visited a local 'vintage' (for vintage read junk) shop about a month ago and they had loads of good, but unfashionable, furniture in there so I might persuade him it's worth another visit. If it's open today of course.

That's my day. Have a lovely day everybody, or at least the best day possible.

Morning! I haven’t been here in a long time, things have just been busy over the summer. Today I plan on heading into the city to finish the school uniform/stationary shopping. Slow start this morning, we’ve had visitors staying which has been lovely but I’m tired now. I’ve got up and put a load of washing on, grabbed some coffee and toast and am back in bed with the kiddies. Might head for a walk later too. I’ve been off the rails over the summer and am getting a little podgy so need to get moving! No idea for dinner. There’s some sausages in the fridge, maybe just sausage sandwiches or sausage and chips. Hope everyone has a good Sunday!

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 16/08/2026 09:50

Abandoning my children with their grand farther so he can take them fishing and we can go and do something fun. They’re very excited to go fishing and I have explained that it’s really quite boring but I guess they’re just gonna have to see for themselves. I don’t actually know what we are doing but DH says “something fun” which concerns me a bit because sometimes his idea of fun is not mine, but I trust him.

TammiesBackHurts · 16/08/2026 09:57

I had a dream about something…… out of this world. But other than that, I’m feeling much better this morning than yesterday morning (I got sick from a BBQ…)

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 16/08/2026 10:07

Good morning lucysmam and others. I've been up for a while. I've had 2 coffees and 2 slices of homemade bread with butter, then a cuppa. Because I didnt feel well yesterday, the housework mostly didn't get done. Therefore today I have again emptied and loaded the dishwasher then I hoovered throughout and cleaned the bathroom. Currently I'm waiting for a tesco delivery then I will polish and do the ironing. It'll be a quiet day for me. Chicken salad for dinner. Enjoy your Sunday all.

Moping around feeling sorry for myself - had a brilliant holiday but got an ear infection on last day. Had ABs which didn’t work then it just went crazy and I ended up in A&E with a swollen and numb face and blood out my ear. Now have a weird gauze wick thing in my ear as it was totally swollen shut and needs drops. On second load of strong ABs so I also joyfully have thrush, lucky me!!! Thankfully the lovely ENT doctor who saw me gave me liquid morphine as my god ear infection hurt like hell!

Giggorata · 16/08/2026 10:16

Good morning lucysmam and all!

I have nothing in the diary for today so we are having a relaxed morning with a pot of tea.
I have a friend and her son coming during the week, so will get beds ready and make a chicken and leek pie, plus some for the freezer.
The bathroom needs a good muck out as well.

DH is going down to the land to lift our onion crop, which has been quite good, thanks to careful watering.

Is the heatwave over? It’s overcast this morning and I am missing the heat, unlike DH and so many others. (Not the wildfires, of course)
There was a grass verge fire nearby, which thankfully didn't reach the wood on the other side.
We actually had maybe a bucketful of rain the other day, which I couldn't resist dancing in.

Tiddlywinks63 · 16/08/2026 10:29

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone, hallelujah it’s only 16° at the moment! I’m wondering if I have a chest infection brewing, will need to be very careful as lung still healing.
I did actually sleep quite well so feeling less inhuman today 😄, just enjoyed poached egg and avocado on toast with a coffee.
DH has walked tiddler, he’ll take bigger dog out when he’s finished faffing around upstairs 🙄
I need to sort out the fridge and the cupboard where medication etc is kept, both are in a mess and muddle.
@Domino211 that sounds excruciatingly painful, I hope it clears quickly.

Enjoy the cooler weather, fingers crossed it stays that way!

Echobelly · 16/08/2026 10:31

IKEA run for DC before they go to uni to get stuff like graters, pots and pans, cutlery etc.

Tonight I'm taking DS to the see The Odyssey. He was on summer camp until last week and he turned 15 while there so now he can see it and was more keen to see it than DH. As it's 3 hours long I've splashed out on the fancy Everyman cinema so we can sit on a sofa and maybe have posh burgers while we watch or beforehand.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 16/08/2026 10:38

Tiddlywinks do you have a contact number for support after surgery? If so, I would give them a ring.

SereneReader · 16/08/2026 11:38

Currently sat at one of those aqua inflatable parks on a lake watching DC. Then home to get the bikes sorted and pottering.

Salad for tea. DH is back to work tomorrow after 2 weeks off so he's down in the dumps!

Rainbow1235 · 16/08/2026 11:38

Good morning lucysmam and to u all just cleaned up and having cuppa in garden . Popping to Asda for few bits and trying to think what to have to eat later something with mash I’m thinking . Have a great and safe day all 🫶

DemonsandMosquitoes · 16/08/2026 11:51

DH has gone to play golf with DS1. I’ve just ironed a pile of shirts and put the washing on the line. Will have a walk later and FaceTime DS2 who is at the other end of the country, he’s just started his fourth year interrnship to complete his masters and seems to be settling in with his new housemates. Then the football will be on no doubt, Man City fans in this house.
I’m feeling a bit meh as went out for afternoon drinks with friends yesterday and it went on a bit! Roast pork for tea later.
It’s fairly bright here in the NW and we’ve had rain. Miss the heat though, I love it.

OneZanyCat · 16/08/2026 11:53

Sorry to hear you don't feel well after surgery @Tiddlywinks63 I would call the team that did the operation or the cancer team as they like to know straight away about possible issues so can treat them. Hope your follow up goes as well as it can.

Hope your ear improves soon @Domino211

DH has gone to collect my Waitrose order and also has got food for Sunday lunch. He has also collected my George order for DS with more t shirts and socks in as DS goes through lots of socks. Then we will have Sunday lunch. We may garden after, was gardening yesterday so not sure whether we will or will not today.

JacknDiane · 16/08/2026 11:59

Still lying in bed. I am one lazy mare.

Thislittlekitten · 16/08/2026 12:00

Morning all (just)

DH woke me super early to have tea and toast because he was awake. Bit annoying as I was up late finishing some coursework. However dog is walked and some ironing done.

I need to read over my work and clean the kitchen. Just made bacon rolls for me and DS. DD still asleep and DH is now out shopping.

Lasagne for tea tonight. Hoping for an early night and read of my book after 6 weeks off work I’m looking forward to seeing all the children this week.

gingercat02 · 16/08/2026 12:28

Missed you this morning, just showered after my class. DS is just up, we're waiting for DH to come back from his bike ride so we can have lunch.
Quiet day planned as I didn't sleep well and were are away to the Netherlands on Thursday so I need a chill day today.

Sorry you're unwell @Tiddlywinks63 I would go to a walk in centre or speak to the 111 people to get antibiotics sooner.

We need to get on the uni shopping too @echobellybut we're away next weekend and then DS is at Leeds festival so it will be September before we get on that.

Crunchymum · 16/08/2026 14:02

Beach day here!

Current views 😍

Edited

I realised this was about our last chance to go before uni - we go on holiday next weekend. Then first weekend we're back is taken up with family stuff, then the next two weekends with Jewish High Holy Days. We enjoyed Ikea lunch and had a successful haul. DC likes to cook so will want a little more than some students!

They're staying in London, but the opposite side so we will still have to drive their stuff down. I think they will take a suitcase of stuff on the Friday and we'll drive down at the weekend.
