I’m wondering about volunteering. I don’t have kids sadly so don’t have any natural clubs I’m involved in, and am mid-30s, but want to do something fun and fulfilling and where I’d hopefully learn a lot too. I’ve been seeing a lot of adverts online. I was a sea cadet as a kid - would have preferred army but we didn’t have it. I’d love to hear from other people who volunteer with them about what they think… with no military background, would I be welcomed? Do you enjoy it? How do you find it? I’m a bit of an introvert so it would push me out of my boundaries!

I was a Civilian adult Instructor in the Air Cadets. No military background but was not an issue. As it happened, none of the adult instructors were ex-military at our squadron though the top 3 were reservists.
For Air Cadets, you now have to go on a short safeguarding course but other than that it was fantastic and incredibly enjoyable & rewarding. I’m also an introvert and at the time, wasn’t a parent, so it did push me out of my comfort zone and gave me a tiny insight into leadership and being responsible for kids! What I also found, was a feeling of pride seeing certain cadets progress and overcome obstacles etc. it was 14 years ago and I still remember a few of their surnames and ranks. I do miss it to be honest, but I’m no longer physically or circumstantially able to go back. Highly recommend contacting a squadron (are Army cadets squadrons?) and asking if you can pop along one evening to get a taste for it.
