Per the title - a year into potty/toilet training with DD (recently turned 3) and she's still pooing in her knickers every time, sometimes multiple times a day.
DH and I and her nursery are at a bit of loss. Her communication is great and she's generally very bright, but this just seems to be a real sticking point for her. She can't say why she does it - just that she likes doing it in her knickers and doesn't want to do it on the toilet.
Promises of rewards haven't worked - we first offered a highly coveted toy if she did x number of poos on the toilet. When that failed we thought maybe she needed some more immediate motivation so promised an ice cream from the van for each one and a chocolate button straight after doing one, but still no joy.
She's on long term stool softener (with our GP's support) as for a while she started withholding it to the point that she made herself constipated. Now you can see she still tries to hold it in but as we grab her and run to the loo she just does it in her knickers very hurriedly.
Nursery think it is something to do with control but are a bit stuck. DH and I think an element of that. She can also be a bit impatient/prone to boredom so we've all tried reading to her, singing songs and even showing some TV while she sits, and she's perfectly happy to do all that for as long as an hour, and then will just poo as soon as she gets off.
I've seen advice before to get her to clean up after herself each time it happens but she has an immature streak and by this point I don't think we can hack any more mess.
Any words of wisdom?! I'm starting to get quite concerned about the prospect of school next year with no sign of this stopping 😖 We're planning to speak to the HV and the charity ERIC next week.
