Dehumidifier keeps dropping from high to low mode, anyone else?

Can anyone help me. Has anyone experienced similar. I got a dehumidifier last winter but it stopped working properly after a power cut a few months ago. I had to send it back, get a refund and I bought a new dehumidifier. I only have my new one since June and there's a problem.

I only noticed it yesterday. It was happening again all day today.

Whenever I put the machine into high mode or laundry mode. It's supposed to operate with a higher watts of approx 660w. I have the appliance plugged into a smart plug. After about 2 or 3 minutes in high mode, I hear the fan lowering and the plug shows less power being drawn. It shows 260 w approx. Which would indicate the low setting.

Depending on the setting and the conditions of the room, sometimes the machine can behave cycling through power modes. However I have it set on manual mode or laundry mode and it really shouldn't be doing that. Basically the problem is thst it won't stay in high mode or laundry mode and it keeps being reduced to low mode. This isnt ideal when I need it to dry laundry. It's a meaco machine.

I am just wondering if anyone here has experienced similar with their dehumidifier.

This is the second meaco dehumidifier thst is misbehaving on me within 6 months. I liked meaco because apparently they are the most energy efficient but fuck me. The second machine to misbehave. Can anyone else recommend a brand that would be energy efficient. I contacted the manufacturer but I will be waiting for a reply.

Where do you live? The humidity is very low at the moment, my dehumidifier automatically goes to the lower mode when the humidity in the room is below 42

Nourishinghandcream · 15/08/2026 18:54

What is the humidity level?
Is it possible that with the super dry conditions we have been having, even on laundry mode it is not seeing sufficiently high humidity to run on the higher setting?

RoseyLentil · 15/08/2026 18:54

I’ve not had an issue with mine which is their 12litre model but atm it’s registering 47% Humidity and I have it on air purifier mode. If I switched it to laundry it probably wouldn’t kick in as it’s so dry.

I am not in England and my heatwave is over. The outside temp today is 18 degrees and 64% humidity. The humidity indoors, right now is between 55 and 60%.

I don't think it is temp or humidity related. Yesterday I was trying to dry laundry and indoor humidity was 78%. So it definitely didn't get too low.

What does the manual say?

What does the manual say?

The manual doesn't say anything about this. About jumping from high to low and the machine kicking itself out of laundry mode.

Is the air filter clean @floraldesign?

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 15/08/2026 19:14

Is the humidity level on laundry mode low enough? Mum’s was cutting out because of that. And is the tank empty?

PeonyBulb · 15/08/2026 19:16

Well don’t use the smart plug and try it

floraldesign · 15/08/2026 19:25

Yes, I cleaned the filter. The water tank is filling. It's about half full now. Emptied last night. The laundry humidity setting is 35%. Even when I try and change this to 45 or 40, it still is kicking itself out of laundry mode and high power to low power.

I do have it in the smart plug. The dehumidifier can run on high or in laundry mode for about 2 or 3 minutes and then it just drops. I hear the fan reduce and the tapo plug shows the same. It shows 660w to 260w.

Meaco app says indoor humidity is 60% right now so it's not too low or dry but it's still kicking out of laundry mode and high mode after 2 or 3 minutes into low mode.

Try without the plug. Sometimes it unsettles things.

Have you tried leaving it be? It may cycle in and out. We find ours really fast but I don’t know what setting it’s on. Dries a full load overnight.

Mine is working fine on laundry mode but I am drying a feather quilt and pillow so probably humid enough

chaosmaker · 15/08/2026 19:50

also why do plugs need to be 'smart'. mine works fine and that's all i need

Let’s you use it as a timer, or turn it off if you accidentally left the house without doing it.

Another user gave you a reason for a smart plug. Another reason is that you can monitor the use of appliances see their power and you can put the price if electricity into the app and you can calculate the cost.

I always turn stuff off at the wall when not in use.

I was drying laundry yesterday so it was humid indoors at 78% but the machine was still behaving like this. I spent all day today like some sort of engineer. Powering it down, unplugging for a while, starting it again, investigating modes. It is consistently kicking itself out of laundry mode and high mode into low mode.

Mine is an Inventor Eva II Pro and I've had it a couple of years. Use it to dry clothes mostly but sometimes to warm a room in winter when it's musty.

Thank you. I never heard of that brand before. I will have to try and source one.

I will have to see how things u fold with this situation. If it fixes itself or if there's a problem. I contacted Meaco and depending on what way things go, I will have to get rid of meaco and try something else. This is awful.

Think I got mine on ebay. Good luck with yours and hope you resolve it
