How much do you monitor the music your children listen to?

To what extent do you care about the music your kids hear? Are you hardcore (no swearing, no sex references, only kids bop) or are you very lax (they can listen to whatever they want or like)? How old are they and how has a it changed as they’ve gotten older (if it has).

Our children are all under 10, and we are pretty lax. We play our music in the house and in the car, sometimes I put on tiny desk concerts for them on the TV in our room and they really like that. I feel like I’m setting them up to have decent music taste but that’s obviously totally subjective. I wouldn’t really want them to listen to WAP, but then again I don’t actually think they’d understand that really.. I’d just fear them repeating it 😭.

I’m just curious, as we recently met parents who only let their kids listen to kids bop and children’s songs… credit to them I guess but I couldn’t do it. I need my tunes or I can’t do the house work.

We're not really a music family but my 7yo DD has seen a few music videos as she likes dancing to them. Then, one day, she asked her dad if she could watch the music video with the naked men in it. It turns out she was talking about It’s Raining Men by The Weather Girls!! So maybe I need to start paying more attention before her school calls social services on me 😂

I don’t. I’m obviously a terrible parent but my 8 year olds favourite song at the moment is “I’m fucking tired of this fucking shit”. As long as the words are t repeated I can’t get worked up about it.

I don’t.

Parents have always disapproved of the musical choices of the next gen.

Yhe my kids absolutely love that one 😭. My dad had karaoke at his birthday and my daughter who was 6 wanted to sing it and I did have to convince her to do something else.
