Please can someone tell me where I can buy melatonin in the uk online? I know it’s only given via a prescription but I’m sick of jumping through hoops and waiting months to see a paediatrician meanwhile my child is up every night till 3/4am unable to sleep. I think I read of people buying it online from other countries? any advice on where from? Thanks

(I realise it needs a prescription here but many other countries sell it over the counter)

I wouldn't recommend TV less than an hour before bed. Though I've just told my DCs they can have a short programme but we are on holiday and I'm not expecting them to sleep immediately!
It can be hard to switch off for a lot of DCs so a relaxed chat about their day (or yours if they say "nothing" like a lot of kids), you read to them and then just let them listen to as much audio as they want (or read to themselves). We reckon as long as ours are resting, then it's all good. Both have ADHD and DS has gone through phases of getting up due to anxiety and wanting to check we are still there, DD just wants to play and will get up to build a den/try my makeup/shoes/other things she's not supposed to be doing. Which is why I say if they are in bed it's fine!

For children with adhd, some screen time before bed is less problematic. Dd, who is NT, does not benefit from a bit of gentle tv watching pre bed. Dh and ds, who both have adhd, do. Its actually better for ds who wstchds in his room, on his bed, as he relaxes then jist turns off tv and snuggles down (whereas dh tries to stay awake, falls asleep on couch etc).

As a toddler, reading was an actice activity for ds. Drove me mad. I ouldnt work out why watching something random would keep him calm and still and then hed happily hand over ipad and go to sleep vs stories! And was even more confised when his sister was more "traditional" years later. The adhd diagnosis ans the discovery of a dofferent approach to screens was a revelation!! (Note, active scrrens like gaming = not good).

Have you asked your GP about allergy meds instead/as well?

My 2 DSes have ADHD and are treated for it. The meds also impact sleep. So to counteract the effects of the meds and the ADHD they are prescribed melatonin.

14 year old take 5mg, 12 year old takes 3mg.

My eldest was still struggling to sleep so his neurologist also prescribed an allergy med to help.

In addition, we are strict on sleep routine (wake up and sleep time) and he needs sleep hypnosis tapes. The youngest also needs sleep music.

We are in France so I occasionally buy melatonin for myself OTC pharmacy - it comes in 1.9mg tablets.

It's a nightmare having kids who don't sleep.
