Have you ever stopped using a product because the advert is so annoying?

I generally only watch tv on ad free streaming so have little experience of adverts these days but through a change of services I have just seen the advert for John Frieda Root Booster spray.

It is a blank faced young woman with a very annoying monotone voice giving a double speed monologue about the effect of the product on her hair.

She has a hugely unpleasant and cold quality. I am not sure if this is intentional or not?

Either way I find the advert so incredibly irritating!

That's me done with John Frieda.

I am clearly not their target market.

Pregnacare had a very anti abortion agenda at one point. I was in the opposite of an accidental pregnancy situation with a happy later in life success story. Ads on the underground at the time were very pro life. I was horrified and binned Pregnacare.

Rhaidimiddim · 13/08/2026 22:42

Yes. Y

Yorkie bars ( not for girls).

Isthiscorrect123 · 13/08/2026 22:42

Not stopped using a product, but those Nationwide adverts with the poems that were on some years ago put me off ever banking with them.

I have been tempted for ages to try Slimpod to try to get my brain on board with eating more healthily but every time I'm almost ready to commit I see an ad featuring their founder with a clip of an interview on GB News where she is really sneery about people using GLP1s and it seems so "mean girl" it puts me off.

ShakyBake · 13/08/2026 22:48

Yes Virgin Airlines, cringe worthy ultra woke nonsense that has no substance

ThatWasGreek · 13/08/2026 22:50

I can’t watch Judi Dench in anything at all since she did that money super seven advert.

gamerchick · 13/08/2026 22:50

I find this place annoying with all the moving adverts it's got now. I've closed multiples just getting to the bottom of this short thread.

ShakyBake · 13/08/2026 22:56

The ones where the same presenter (celebrity) advertised different goods, it loses any believability that they are doing it for anything but the cash. Anyone remember the multiple adverts Phillip Schofield was on a good few years ago?

Digerydont · 13/08/2026 22:59

I would like to withhold my TV licence money until they scrap "What's the BBC ever done for me" ads. Deadly serious.

BasilParsley · 13/08/2026 23:00

Yes, Persil.
Its adverts in the early 1980s were so appallingly sexist they infuriated me so much I have boycotted it ever since!!!!

powershowerforanhour · 13/08/2026 23:00

Hunky Dorys womens' rugby (not) ad. Fuck off with that shit. Not eating your crisps again.

Yeah also Yorkie
"Not for Girls" - righto.

Digerydont · 13/08/2026 23:01

Do I just cancel the DDs?

It’s overpriced anyway.

I have never used Trivago, and I never will.

Their adverts are so insufferably annoying with those smug pricks and their unfeasible teeth it has put me right off.

helpnavigateteens · 13/08/2026 23:10

Oatly. When they had a very ageist text panel on their cartons. Pitting generations against each other.

Yes! What is it with those teeth? It’s like they were blindfolded and told to pick some at random from the Lost Dentures Box 😂

InternetResearchedOut · 13/08/2026 23:12

I am a huge lover of all cheese but will never buy Leerdammer. Annoying AF.

Gateappreciation · 13/08/2026 23:20

McCains had an advert whereby a drag queen advertised Smilies’ chips, I think to broaden its appeal to students etc. The advert had the person make a body with the Smiley as a face, and used the term ‘knockers’ in the advert. We’re not in the 1979s or a Carry-on film. Not purchased McCain products since.

GettingFestiveNow · 13/08/2026 23:26

Haven't eaten a Yorkie since 2002.

elliehamster · 13/08/2026 23:28

Andrex toilet roll. Their adverts used to be lovely and cute, the Andrex puppy running through the house unravelling the toilet roll. A few years ago their advert was children in school avoiding the toilet with a horrid song about poo. I will never buy Andrex again. I don’t know what they were thinking.

How awful

That pepto bismol song gets stuck in my head, so obviously a win for the marketing! But no, a horrid advert. What is it with personal body advertising these days? I hate hate hate the sanitary towel and tampon ones. They get closer to indecent with every new advert.

Fizbosshoes · 13/08/2026 23:34

Im probably being a prude but theres a really nasty ad on a podcast I listen to, about a toilet door being broken on the train, and everyone seeing you on the bog. Its for some gambling site, cant remember which one. I dont gamble anyway but it would definitely put me off!

Crudd99 · 13/08/2026 23:36

Anything where the advert involves tapping fingernails on the product. Or loud eating/ chewing noises.
