Firstly I appreciate this is not the same for the rest of the country

but we’ve had it horrific here (London). I’ve never felt so shit in my life as I have for the last 10 weeks. I’ve spent between £250-350 a month on electricity (portable air conditioners). I’ve felt anxious, headachy, it’s FUCKED with my peri menopause (brain fog, no words, cognitive decline). I’ve felt tearful and as if it would go on forever. There are moments where I’ve thought I can’t take another moment of this. My sleep is proper fucked.

level I can. Air conditioners only when necessary, above 26 inside (DH has long Covid so literally throws up in heat). His asthma is exacerbated. The dogs have had the shittest summer. I’ve had a couple of rescues that can’t go out about 22 degrees. I reckon they’ve been walked briefly 3 times a week. We deliberately went away on a cheap caravan holiday twice just so they could smile. There were endless days I couldn’t work as too hot in my home office and clients cancelled.

I cannot wait til Saturday.

I hope for solidarity from others. I want to wear a fucking hoodie again. I’ve spent every day sat around in my underwear inside for vast stretches of the day. This is not sexy.

I had a really horribly dream last night that my garden had died in the heat. 🥺

It must have been caused by seeing so much dead grass and dying plants and hearing about the fires and failed crops etc.

I'm so sorry for anyone who's garden or home really has been damaged or ruined due to climate change. Or people who's health has been affected.

Yes I’m so here for this thread I could cry. It’s been truly, truly awful down here. I’ve never wanted to wish the summer away before until now. I cannot wait to be able to wear layers again and get a hot chocolate on a chilly day. Best thread ever 🥹❤️ we made it! X

Yeah right! Fans offer little cooking effect to humans at 25C or higher. And when air temp rises above 33 fans can actually increase body core temperature as they act like a convection oven.

I know what you mean Laurie it's been horrendous up in the north East of England I like sunshine as long as there's a breeze but it's got too much now roll on the rain

I was 11 in 76 and they did say it wouid get hotter each year as I remember my mum being upset as she hated it too. I can’t remember it being as hot as this last year.

You get so many different opinions about it all.

I reckon most people including myself will be relieved to get back to "normal" Summer temperatures. This year has certainly been a challenge and a struggle for many. The country is not built around high Summer temperatures and homes are built to retain heat whereas say in the Med they are built to keep the heat out!

There is one sure thing anyway - it is far easier to make yourself warm than it is to cool yourself down.

The thing for me is that there has been no concessions. Just plough on through it like it’s not having an effect on your body. Keep working, keep commuting, keep going. I’m absolutely fried. I’m so tired and hot and swollen. We cannot be expected to just carry on like nothing is happening. My laptop shut down yesterday because it was melting. The advice was ‘put it in the fridge and then reboot’. It was 35 degrees in my house. Nevermind the laptop, I couldn’t carry on.

This is the start of the El Nino Effect. Apparently it is to last right through until Spring 2027, so don't pack away the aircon unit just yet. 😊

It won't create heat in the UK though - it will create extreme storms from Jan/Feb '27 onwards.

When I've put the fan on in my bedroom recently it heats it up!

They measure temps in the shade. So realistically it can feel a lot hotter.

She did point out the differences in what is happening now with the normal cycles that the Earth has gone through over the history of climate that we know. How the El Ninos are forming, how that is different to previous years, how we have another forming, and what effect that is likely to have next year.

I remember 1976, and it was nowhere near what we have now. The temperature wasn't much lower in its peak (35.9), however it didn't last as long, or affect so much of the country. And it wasn't preceded by weeks of constant rain. That appears to be another thing to look forward to.

I have spent summer indoors with the curtains shut! I'm constantly sweating, if I move for more than 2 minutes I'm dripping, dizzy and get a headache. The fan hasn't been off and I haven't had a duvet on my bed since April.

Thankfully today it's only 28°C. I don't think I've ever been grateful for high 20s!!

Winter isn't much better really. I haven't needed a scarf and could cope without gloves or my coat zipped up for around 4 years. I was actually thinking I will probably only need a gilet this winter!

Maybe all of the above is just my hot peri age!!
