Was i right to report

I feel guilty for reporting but i know something needed to be done. So back story it had been going on a few months i was if I'm honest in two minds whether to report or not. It was about a week or two ago and I was awoken at 5:30 in the morning to the dad shouting at his child. No clue on the age of the child but the child could be heard crying from the shouting. He was shouting at the child calling them a stupid cow for wetting the bed. Now my middle child wet the bed right up to the age of 9 or 10 simply because he didnt feel the urge to go till he was desperate so it was hard to tell the age of this child as I've not seen them. Ive only every seen the dad. The dad shouts at lot, at his child and his partner. There's been cases where ive heard things smash while they've had arguments. Anyway I'm one of these that hate getting involved in things and usually mind my own business but shouting at his child calling them a stupid cow was the final straw. All I had to go on was the address it was coming from, no name, no age. I've not heard any screaming for a few days after I reported them so can only hope SS have been and child is safe. SS did tell me they can't tell me how its ends but I feel guilty that I could have potential ripped a family apart. Please someone tell me ive done the right thing. Ive seen what being ripped away from parents can do to kids, my son's best friend has not long been ripped from his mum and now could be taken from his nan and its breaking him. He's well looked after by his nan.

You may have saved a child from further abuse and waking up an abused woman to the reality that this kind of behaviour is not normal.

The silence may be good news, hopefully.

I'm really hoping i have. I know first hand how abuse can be effective well into adulthood

You did the right thing and should be proud of yourself. As someone that experienced childhood abuse, I wish someone stepped in to help me. If anyone has 'pulled a family apart,' it's the actions of the shouty man. You did well and should sleep better at night knowing you helped save a little girl. 💕

I was abused as a child too only for soical did nothing. The abuser told soical I was a naughty child and deserved what I got and soical left it. I wasn't a naughty child I was actually really quiet. Anyway. I just wish there was a way of finding out of the child is safe. Just hate the idea of the child being raised without its parents but also hate the idea of the child being in harms way. It was a case of what's better for the child

It's always right. It might just be one part of a much bigger picture.

Thats what I'm worried about, I'm worried he could be a physically abusive man as well as verbally

Even "just" verbal abuse can mess someone up for life, it warrants the call even if he doesn't hit anyone!
