Is TUI in-flight food decent enough for a short afternoon flight?

Flying with tui next week and the app states we can order food for the plane toastie/ sandwich ,Popcorn chicken chips etc

What's the food like ? Not expecting 5* but is it OK. We have a 1.45 flight and think it may be easier and less hassle to just order something?

Averages £10 per head so didn't think it was too bad?

My daughter had a toastie and raved about it!

I bought a pret salad at the airport and wasn’t a hassle on the slightest

IamSmarticus · 13/08/2026 14:41

Personally I would just get something from the airport before boarding. My partner had a toastie once and it wasn't very nice. Mcrowaved and soggy.

hahabahbag · 13/08/2026 14:43

Eat before boarding, it’s not great. It’s under 2 hours, you don’t need to eat on board

When was the last time you were at an airport? I fly from Gatwick and the idea of picking up some food is a hassle is… odd

Makepumpseleven · 13/08/2026 14:46

I’ve also been on flights before where half the menu was out of stock. We always just pick up a sandwich in the airport and take it on the plane now.

Rollercoaster1920 · 13/08/2026 14:48

Airport food prices are horrific. Get something before going into the airport if you can.

WhatHappenedToYourFurnitureCuz · 13/08/2026 14:48

No. The toasties are absolutely foul. You can get overpriced bags of crisps IIRC but it's really no hassle to buy an overpriced sandwich before boarding, and you'll get more choice.

MeNotYouJustMe · 13/08/2026 14:50

That’s a huge amount of money for a less than one hour flight - stop at a supermarket on the way, job done!

purplecorkheart · 13/08/2026 14:51

I would probably eat before the flight. Ideally not at the airport (crazy prices or horrible) and then just pack some snacks for the flight if you think you will need them. You can always pick them up a few days before you fly.

TheChosenTwo · 13/08/2026 14:53

For us it’s nothing to do with the cost and everything to do with the awful taste/texture 🤮
I happily get snacks from the trolley, crisps, chocolate and drinks but anything trying to carry itself off as a meal of any kind is not fooling me.
We either eat a proper meal at the airport if we want it or get a pret picnic before boarding.

Adossieronme · 13/08/2026 14:53

What time of the flight?

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 13/08/2026 14:57

No intel to be honest as we always just pick up sandwiches from Pret which I appreciate if you are travelling with lots of carry on is one more thing to juggle especially if travelling with kids. I like to get the kids settled in and starting on something to eat as they usually can't open tablets until airborne so it gives them something to focus on and sandwiches and crisps etc are a bit of a novelty. Price wise Pret is probably more expensive.

One thing I have observed is they do try to give the preordered food to people as soon as take off is done. Then start the drinks service so you can at least be reasonably certain if you have seats near the back that they won't give you food and then tell you to put your trays up 5 mins later.

What time of the flight?

Did you bother to read the Op?

SWsmileyface · 13/08/2026 15:07

I flew last week with tui. 4 hour flight.
We ordered 2x cheese ploughman sandwichs, a tea, a coffee, and a biggish packet of mini cheddars. It was fine. Cost about £20.
They did seem to run out of stuff quickly.

Where does the Op say the time of flight?

wondering if breakfast, lunch etc

Miyagi99 · 13/08/2026 15:08

I usually get a Boots meal deal to eat on the plane.

WiseMoose · 13/08/2026 15:12

I sometimes take sandwiches from home 🤪 or will pick up a meal deal from Boots or WHSmiths in the airport.

Ineedanewsofa · 13/08/2026 15:13

Plane food is always 🤢 Boots meal deal all the way!

Mamadothehump · 13/08/2026 15:15

I would never dream of buying plane food on a flight time of under 2 hours! If you don’t want to pay restaurant prices at the airport, can’t you just get a boots meal deal before you board? Might be more expensive than your high st stores but still won’t be £10!!

cherrytree12345 · 13/08/2026 15:15

We’ve been on a few Tui flights recently and where the flight is short haul (less than 4 hours I think) they don’t restock on the return flight to the UK and we have found they usually run out of various food choices. So particularly on the return flight get something at the airport. The food on the plane is ok, nothing special and on the pricey side.

youngestisapsycho · 13/08/2026 15:17

I make and take my own roll, a bag of crisps and a Kitkat 😊

Maybeitllneverhappen · 13/08/2026 15:18

I just buy sandwiches or whatever from Tesco the day before and take with us. Easy enough and much cheaper.

Second this about the toastie. It was a two and a half hour flight though. I didn't pre-book but thankfully the plane was half empty.

I wouldn't book anything on a flight less than an hour unless I knew I would be short for time.

The title says afternoon and the body of the message says 1.45

HappyToSeeSomeCloud · 13/08/2026 16:20

Sorry meant 1.45pm flight. The flight is 4 hours duration. I stated the time as its around lunchtime . But thank you for all the feedback 😊
