Is TUI in-flight food decent enough for a short afternoon flight?

Flying with tui next week and the app states we can order food for the plane toastie/ sandwich ,Popcorn chicken chips etc

What's the food like ? Not expecting 5* but is it OK. We have a 1.45 flight and think it may be easier and less hassle to just order something?

Averages £10 per head so didn't think it was too bad?

So we've just decided to get a meal deal at the airport. Or if I'm prepared enough grab sandwiches etc the night before at a supermarket for ease. And we can eat whilst waiting around.

It's our first time flying with dcs so I just wanted to be prepared / organised

Sorry meant 1.45pm flight. The flight is 4 hours duration. I stated the time as its around lunchtime . But thank you for all the feedback 😊

I was answering the pp who couldn’t work out what time your flight was, despite you telling us very clearly in the op!

Get a boots meal deal and take it on

Mumtotornadoes · 13/08/2026 16:29

It's fine, it's food. It's edible

gingercat02 · 13/08/2026 16:29

Surely the WH Smith/Boots/M&S shop for plane food is all part of the airport experience 😳
Airplane food is generally crap.

mambojambodothetango · 13/08/2026 16:33

We just get sushi and a salad before boarding. Not necessarily cheaper but much nicer and you don't have to wait ages to be served.

RedToothBrush · 13/08/2026 16:34

WHSmith and Boots exist at airports for a reason.

squirrelchops2 · 13/08/2026 16:36

Buy at the airport as you don't want food in the heat you've bought the night before festering away in this heat unless you bring a cool bag etc

I used to work in aviation in HSE and rotated on food hygiene. I fly Qatar or Gulf business or first and never eat or drink their stuff. I am very polite and just say please can you wake me up for landing bit they always act like I'm a weirdo. Its cheap, preserved food mass refrigerated after half cooking with about 40% more salt than a normal meal.

Meal deals.

Depends how fussy you are..All airport food is pricey so there's no savings to be made . Perhaps if you don't eat any meat or fish it might be safer not to rely on it. But if you eat meat and you don't want to have to give it much brain space, especially if your kids aren't fussy, I'd just go along with it.

Morethanadecade · 13/08/2026 16:53

£10 per person is extortionate. Do you need a meal on the plane? It’s a short flight.

placemats · 13/08/2026 16:53

Get a burger and chips 😀

You cannot take food through security.

mynameiscalypso · 13/08/2026 16:53

We always get to the airport in time for a proper meal, so for a 1.45pm flight, we’d look to sit down around 12.30 so we’re done by 1pm or so. Then maybe grab some snacks for the plane but we won’t need an actual meal or anything.

Jerrybalanitis · 13/08/2026 16:53

Yes i dont have those either. Usually take a banana and a bag of wine gums. I'm classy 😀

I take food through security alot. You cannot take drinks but can fill up your water bottle after securiry
If im feeling extra fancy ill eat in weatherspoons and wait there till my flight boards, make use of unlimited tea and coffee there.

RedRiverShore6 · 13/08/2026 17:45

My DS used to get very excited about the Tui inflight meal when he was little, though the selection seems more of a packaged snack than the little meals they used to do on those trays with compartments.

TVonyable · 13/08/2026 17:51

Toasties were ok, as were chips but nothing else really, they always run out of sandwiches
