BIL Sun Eclipse Prank - WWYD?

DH and BIL are brothers, both in their 50s, senior managers at work, but never grew up as far as each other are concerned.

BIL and us live in the same town, 5 mins away by car. I was painting our fence after work. DH was driving home during eclipse, from another town an hour away. On arrival, shows me a stunning dramatic picture of eclipse. Black sky, blazing rays, just stunning - BIL sent it to him, view from his garden. Except it didn’t look anything like this in our town, I was outside the whole time. So, I messaged BIL asking to send me the picture and he said it was off Google 😂 I can’t believe DH fell for it. Should I tell him or let him show it to DMIL and DD on the weekend, I know he will be bragging about the amazing eclipse we had in the Midlands.

I would tell him - his brother will never let him live it down otherwise, and I’d want to protect him from that.

I'd leave him, it's a harmless prank between brothers who seem to love pranking each other. Nice to hear about, instead of the usual family fueds I read about on here.

We live in Spain and found a nice spot in the countryside to view the eclipse. An older gentleman pulled up in his van and spoke to us. Between my deafness in one ear, the dog barking and his engine running I only got about ¼ of what he said, add to that translation delay and I didn't have a clue so I nodded politely and said "gracias senoir". My 15yr old was by now in stitches.... The gent had told us that it was fine for us to be there but the eclipse had been put off until tomorrow. If your DH ends up feeling a little daft share that with him to cheer him up.

Why did you ask BIL to send it to you, not your husband?

If you know it’s not from your town now then yes, tell your DH.

EnergySauce · 13/08/2026 06:45

@Shinyandnew1 I did ask DH first, of course, but he was cooking and getting onto it fast enough for my satisfaction 😂

For a moment I read 'I'd leave him' as 'LTB because he's so gullible'😄

This made me laugh, along with the eclipse being put off until tomorrow story.

Why is there not more gentleness (like this) in my life?

I will give you some more then...

DD was 7 when DH and I met, him and BIL were carefree bachelors. BIL has become a bit of a clown around my DD too, in the loveliest way. Now, she is in here 20s, he has 2 LOs it's pay back time. Last weekend, she was trading the last bite of her cake to 4YO in exchange for 4YO to say to BIL "innit, bruv"...
