What's with the competitive apathy? 🙄 It's a rare, interesting event. Probably less exciting for most in the UK than the one in 1999, but our children weren't around then so it's nice to share this one with them. I won't be here for the next one.

I’ve seen one before and my dd is fast asleep in bed with a fever so no interest really. I’d have to go out to get a good view anyway.

I find it fascinating, knowing it only happens because of the proportion of the size of two objects (both far bigger than my brain can cope with) being exactly the same proportions as their distance from earth, with distances also being far further than I can comprehend. It’s such a rare phenomenon that wouldn’t happen if sizes or distances were different - it’s not a sight out could see on mars, for example.

Also, it’s rare enough that I can imagine people for as long as people have existed being as excited by it as us. It happens around once a generation, so it’s something I saw as a child, my son is seeing this as a child, the generations before us would have had the experience and maybe one day we will show my grandchildren, and they will show their own.

I don't care but then the moon landings left me cold too.

Nature here on earth interests me 100% though.

D’you know, I remember when the last eclipse was because I had a really shitty day. Lots of horrible tedious tasks to do that I find really stressful and had a memorably bad day. Today, has been equally awful starting from 6am this morning, so I’m officially never having an eclipse again, they’re rubbish!

I remember the last one, I was in work and everyone rushed outside, I was so hung over I was just going with the crowd but later berated myself thinking I'll never see the next one.

I dont much care but feel the need to make an effort, have set up binoculars as a projector and trying to get DC interested.

I'm interested in it, but not interested in watching it?

I don't need to go to the bottom of the sea, I'm happy to read about it. I'm the same about the eclipse - I'm interested to learn about it but not that fussed about 'experiencing' it.

I’m sat in the garden facing west, with the sun behind trees. It is very slowly dimming but I just couldn’t be arsed to go and get special glasses, so I won’t look. DH out playing sport, so who cares?

I do. Made a pinhole camera with the kids and have been in the garden observing. I am a lot further south than Glasgow and it has gone very dark here.

It’s pretty dim here in SW London, passed the maximum 5 minutes ago with 91.5% of the sun covered.

I guess whether one cares or not depends on what moves you subjectively. I find it pretty impressive personally.

Imagine how you would have felt in times gone by if the sun just darkened in the middle of the day?!

I can’t get worked up about it either. It didn’t even get dark! There are partial solar eclipses multiple times a year so it’s not even that rare.

Well that was a disappointment. Got the sun projecting nicely through binoculars but I don't think it was sufficitly covered for us to see it.

Good job I didn't manage to get the DC interested.

Was sitting in the garden eating an ice cream. Not exactly painful.
