Experiences of prophylactic antibiotics for UTIs with/without catheter use

Is anyone has/has had experience of taking prophylactic antibiotics for UTI, either because being catheterised or for any other reason?

I am hearing conflicting information from health professionals, theory seems different than practice.

We have 3 different a/bs to choose from but getting different opinions which one and how to take (Amoxicillin, Trimethoprim & Nitrofurantoin)

Any experience welcome.

I took daily Cefalexin for 30 years (I kid you not, from the age of 14) for recurrent UTIs - now diagnosed as interstitial cystitis as part of my lupus. It has left me with long term invasive Candida. I am now on treatment for that permanently too. Just don’t stay on them longer than you need to. They left me on them far too long.

Thank you so much! So hard to know what to do, old prefer avoiding any but it looks impossible when between a rock and hard place ☹️
Cefalexin hasn't even been mentioned yet, seeing a Dr tomorrow, I wonder what this one will come up with, trying to get myself prepared.

Correction: Instead of "old" it should have said "I would"!
