Is this enough food for a barbecue?

I’m having a barbecue for 24 people on Saturday. I haven’t hosted for this many before so can I check with those if you who are more experienced whether this is the right amount of food?

On the barbecue:

24 burgers
24 hot dogs

Prepared in advance and served cold:

50 buns
A large gammon joint
15 barbecue chicken drumsticks
15 plain drumsticks
A potato salad with lemon and garlic
Homemade coleslaw
A Caesar salad
Another type of vegan salad

Then for people arriving I’ll have a cheeseboard, crisps, dips, and sweets out.

Is it enough? Should I add a pasta salad?

That’s the way it goes when you have any kind of party isn’t it? Besides your question was posed as what kind of parking does OP have to accommodate all those cars, when the answer “the public street” is fairly obvious

They’ll guess I don’t have a drive for 24 I imagine.

And most, if not all, will be drinking. Not bringing cars. Even if they were though I think they’d manage to find a space themselves.

Really? How was this helping OP?

“What kind of parking do have to accommodate a couple dozen cars?”

what on earth does “help out with parking” mean?

Either move our cars to a different place so our guests can park on the drive and / or explain to them where they are ok to park nearby.

I'm amazed that the idea is so foreign to some. To me, it's just common courtesy.

It’s part of a normal human conversation, yes. It’s not part of hosting. And you would not accommodate 24 cars by moving yours off the drive.

it’s amazing to be it’s been raised as a challenge and a sign of bad hosting to someone who asked about food quantities, however

To accommodate obviously doesn't mean to have parked on her own drive... "What provision is there, in the vicinity, for parking?" is the literal question.

🙄

No, of course I wouldn't be able to accommodate 24 cars on the drive (hence the and / or explain where to park nearby). Depending on the size of the party (and how many people are driving / bringing shit) I'd try to accommodate those on the drive who need it most.

This is the first time OP has hosted 24 people. She may not have thought to have had the conversation about parking, even in general chit chat ahead of the event. It was a perfectly reasonable thing for someone to mention.

Don’t you think OP knows whether she needs to think about that? Do you think she’s a total dimwit or something?

you don’t really think that. you’re just being antagonistic because you’re well into bullying the OP now.

Not necessarily, no. And given that the suggestion has caused so much angst, with some people saying they wouldn't think to help their guests with parking, it obviously isn't on everyone's radar but, to my mind (and, clearly, others'), it's the decent thing to do.

I'm not sure why being nice to one's guests is so controversial. If you don't want to do that, that's your call, but people looking out for each other isn't something to damn.

I do really think that.

I am not a disingenuous person.

And I have offered numerous, helpful suggestions to OP on both threads. The fact that I am also content to call out some of her weird and (in my opinion) unnecessarily critical responses to people does not make me a bully.

Nice try. Ending your post with a “if you want to be a shit person, that’s your choice” is ultimate mean girl behaviour

I'm genuinely struggling to understand what's got your back up so much about people helping their guests with parking. It's very odd.

Oooooh which other threads? I'm intrigued!

Also, bit stalky, don't you think?

No, it’s just easy to tell who you and your mates are.

What sort of threads are the other ones? I want to see if I can identify her!

I was thinking a valet service, but coach might be better. Maybe both options.

You're just being silly now because the OP hasn't given in. I mean, in the beginning you may have had a point with OP's determination that one hotdog/sausage and one burger was enough. But now you're just being daft.

What is silly about that?!

Where we live, there is no parking outside our house, only on our drive, and that of itself is awkward because neighbours need access over it.

If we can accommodate everyone on the drive, we move our cars to somewhere else and walk back so that they don't have that inconvenience.

Plenty of our friends live in areas with restricted parking and similarly look out for us when we visit.

This is pretty unusual where I live, and in most cities. Are you in the sticks?
