Have I overcommitted financially over the next couple of months?

Morning,

I am worried that I might have overcommitted financially over the next month or so. I am going on holoday next week - all paid for however I have budgeted £1100 for spends. I am also having some work being done to the house at the start of September at the price of £1500. I have just been looking at my budget over the remainder of this month and September and once all of these things have been paid out and I have been paid my wages at the end of August, I will have about £1750 left to last me until the end of September. This has to cover all food and discretionary spending etc.

I have just talked about it with my my DS (22) who I live with and he thinks that I am overthinking and that I can afford it.

Have I overcommitted?

What?! Unless you’re about to drip feed some mad semi-obligatory discretionary spend of course not? 1750 for food and fun for 6 weeks? I think you’ll be okay 🤦🏼‍♀️

Who knows? It depends on your fixed outgoings.

If concerned use a 0% credit card or extend your agreed overdraft.

Op how do you manage your money ?
Every pay day nothing is left in the account because it's all gone into various pots.
We know our monthly food budget is x. We know we need x petrol per week. All bills immedialy accounted for. We know what we spend.

Unless you are feeding an army £1750 for a six week period - less if you’re on holiday for part of it - sounds more than many people have to use for everything!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 11/08/2026 07:36

Humble brag.

Crunchymum · 11/08/2026 07:37

Are you concerned you'll be short between now and August payday?

£1750 to last 7 weeks is £250 per week?

ShanghaiDiva · 11/08/2026 07:43

If you are concerned then don’t spend as much on your holiday: £1100 is a generous amount of spending money.

Wherethedogsits · 11/08/2026 07:55

What does your discretionary spending include?
Are you a family of 23?
