Offstead complaint/concern raised?

Just asking has anyone had this for their child's nursery? Won't go into too much detail. I've now signed up for notifications for our child's nursery too.

A few months ago I seen something had been published and it said about a complaint concern and one had been raised about safeguarding. The nursery's been running as normal so not been closed for investigation or anything but it said action taken offsted checked in etc

I am going to email as the reports have to be vague I know they cant say a mum has reported she thinks the garden toys arent safe etc or something like that

But has anyone had one of these with their nursery and then asked about it? I feel very anxious

I don’t really understand what you are asking.

I think it's reasonable to ask at nursery

LoyalGoldMentor · Today 06:59

What is it you're anxious about?

So someone’s made a complaint, Ofstead as per duty have investigated, seems nothing to be actioned but you don’t trust the investigation?

Gizlotsmum · Today 07:00

Were there any follow ups from Ofsted, any outcomes of the report filed? I am not sure how much if anything the nursery will tell you. However the fact they didn’t close should be a good thing. Hopefully it was something easily rectified. Do you personally have any concerns over what you have seen at the nursery or just because a report has been made?

Has anyone ever had their child in a nursery where this has happened. Asked the nursery and its not been anything major

I've emailed and obviously worse case scenario if its bad I pull my child out

But unsettling when you see the word safeguarding and my child's been in there

I’d take the lack of action as a positive. People will put in safeguarding concerns that are really nothing. Potentially a near miss or just something completely unfounded. People like to use the work “safeguarding” in contexts it’s not actually warranted as well.

If you’ve emailed the nursery, be prepared for them to still not tell you due to confidentiality of everyone involved. Either you trust the nursery or you don’t. If you don’t, you can move your child.

SpottyPyjama · Today 07:29

If Ofsted haven’t found anything then there’s nothing for you to worry about.

Safeguarding covers a whole range of issues. All of them matter, obviously, but not every safeguarding issue is worthy of getting go your knickers in a twist.

It sounds like it could just be an overly anxious or malicious parent making a complaint. That would just mean that the nurses have had to put up with an overly anxious or malicious parent, not that they had done anything wrong or that there were any genuine safeguarding concerns.

No, the title should read “Ofsted”.
If you have a complaint about the nursery you need to follow the complaints procedure. If you have a concern about something else, you should speak to the nursery manager.

If it was a serious safeguarding concern the nursery would be closed already so you really have nothing to worry about. Nursery aren't going to share anything with you so you will need to base your thoughts about them on your own personal experiences. Do you have any concerns of your own or is your anxiety just out of control because you read about this alleged incident?

Mac56 · Today 07:46

If someone has made a complaint Ofsted will investigate it.
If it is found to be legitimate but not serious enough to close down the nursery, Ofsted will issue an action plan of steps that must be taken by a certain date to rectify the issue.
If you look up Ofsted reports and put in the specific nursery details it may list on there any concerns, and the actions taken.

3teens2cats · Today 07:46

It seems like due process has been followed. The nursery has to protect the privacy of staff and children and their families so may not be able to share full details even if you did ask. A complaint doesn't always mean anything is wrong. It could be a misunderstanding, unrealistic expectations etc.

JuliettaCaeser · Today 07:48

Some people are quite mental especially when parents of small children so the complaint may have been completely baseless / specific to their particular circumstances. The lack of action suggests this.

MrsMabelThorpe · Today 07:51

Have you seen the report itself? It will be published on the Ofsted website if you search for the nursery's name. It isn't clear from your post if you have. Ofsted's role is not to determine the complaint but to check whether there are any changrs that need to be made to protect children in future. The report will tell you whether there are any.

JustAMum42 · Today 07:56

I would want to know what the concern of the other parent was. We have a nursery in our town which has had various investigations over the years and nothing ever seems to come of them despite them being major issues IMO!
(2x kids being allowed to be picked up by adults not on their pick up list, 1x child being found outside of the nursery grounds by a member of the public - staff didn’t know they were missing, and most recently a parent arriving to collect their child only for staff to realise the child wasn’t there - the child had been left locked in a room on a different floor since earlier in the day 😳😳)

Unfortunately it’s the one nursery in town that does early mornings and later pick ups so some parents are forced to consider it due to their working hours.
