Why is LinkedIn so desperate for me to add someone?

LinkedIn has sent me 5 emails today suggesting I add a particular person, and 8 yesterday. It's the same person each time. Why?!?

I don't use LinkedIn particularly, have been on there a few years but it's not that useful in my profession. Being deluged by emails is getting on my nerves. I know the person, they are in the same professional circle as me, but we have different views on some specific issues and I don't want to add them.

its so strange. I've unsubscribed from the emails, but wondered if anyone knew why they send so many?

I seem to have a lot more invitations recently and messages from LinkedIn reminding me when I have not added someone, so yes, I think it has got more intense now.

That’s strange. Are the emails actually from LinkedIn or are they phishing? Did the person who is mentioned in the emails the originator - so s/he asked to connect all those time?

I don’t even have LinkedIn and I get them! It’s weird and I haven’t heard of these people so no idea how this is going on!

That's what I wondered, but they all do appear to be from the correct email address. It's not an invitation from the person themselves, it's just LinkedIn saying "why not add ....".
