How do I have a vicks vaporub eucalyptusy shower?

Rinceyourrice · 09/08/2026 20:20

I have a stinking cold.

I have a jar of vicks vaporub.

I had an idea that a nice hot shower and breathing in the eucalyptus vapour would help.

I put a blob of vicks on the floor of my hot shower and it didn't really work.

How do I do this?

Please be patient. I am so full of cold I can't think straight.

Probably too late for now but you can get shower steamers in this ‘flavour’ or bath salts. You can make a little pile of them in the corner of the shower to release the vapour. It also comes in a bubble bath

Shatandfattered · 09/08/2026 20:24

Home bargains olbas oil there's definitely a bubble bath but there may be a shower gel. Otherwise try mixing some with body oil?

Branwells77 · 09/08/2026 20:28

I know this isn’t useful right now but maybe these for the future and as someone else has said you can get bubble baths and salts too
when I was a child my grandparents used to fill a bowl with hot water and Vicks and put a towel over my head with my head over the bowl to inhale the vapours hope that makes sense and hope you are feeling better soon

Bought my son shower steamers like these. He said they're really good.

I don't know why people mess around using Vicks Vaporub, it's useless.

Just get the up the nose spray.

Highlighta · 09/08/2026 20:34

If it didn't work in the shower just rub it on your chest and your upper back. And if you are coughing, on the soles your feet as well.

If you have these, I have eucalyptus oil which I use in my humidifier which helps a lot.

Hope you feel better soon.

Ribenaberry12 · 09/08/2026 21:01

I love Molton Brown eucalyptus shower gel for this reason!

MadameBethune · 09/08/2026 21:20

Here is a safety announcement.

If you put the Vaporub into a bowl of hot water and a towel-over-the-head, make sure that the towel sits over your nose and not above your eyes, otherwise your eyelashes will end up drenched in menthol vapour, which then goes on your eyes and is incredibly painful.

Ask me how I know.

justasking111 · 09/08/2026 21:44

GP gave me some nasal spray for my hayfever. Jakers the headaches I got were worse than the sinus pressure

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 09/08/2026 22:30

Make sure you scrub the floor well, I did this and it was slippery for ages. Didn't work either.

TheSandgroper · 10/08/2026 01:35

It’s not that hard. A china bowl, a blob of Vicks, boiling water and a towel. And a radio. There’s nothing more boring nor a clock that goes slower than being under that hood. Generations of children have been brought up that way.

SirenScream · 10/08/2026 01:43

what you need is warm salt water & a neti pot, OP
