What would you rate these pictures from 0-10? Any advice?

I really like the one with the stick. Far from the background being distracting (pp), I think it’s an attractive feature. That’s the only frameable one imo. The others are nice photos of a beautiful dog! If you can edit the background, and centre the dog, the first photo is a lovely pose!

They are all overly focused and the lighting (perhaps adjusted in post?) seems very off except for the last one. That one could have been nice had you positioned the camera som that you got less of the grey, whatever that is.

Lovely crisp focus and lovely dog. Background is ugly.

I like the last three, but was told by my photographer instructor that you need to get a highlight in the eyes if the face is in shade - so you would need a light or reflector fo the I’ve with the sun behind. But these three are composed much better than the first one. I’d rate them a 7/8 for an unprofessional shot. If it was professional a 5/6.

Hi OP. If you paid someone to photograph your dog, you’ve been ripped off. The one with the stick in mouth is ok, the others are poorly lit or bad composition / weird colouring.

4/10

They are fairly ordinary snaps of a reasonably cute dog.

I'm not entirely sure but I think she had taken the photos and wanted to turn professional. She got pretty much the same comments back then as she has now.

Ah, thankyou, appreciated.

No, she's not ready to be a professional, needs to learn more basic photography and how a camera works (and yes, I was a professional snapper for 30 years!).

Digital editing is ok, up to a point but the base photograph must be good, cannot be corrected by heavily editing imo because it looks heavily edited.

Sorry @Tuxmittens ! Don't give up, keep learning, passion is half of it. It's a saturated market being a photographer and jobs fewer because of phone cameras. So need to really know your stuff.

RemindMeIn15Minutes · 09/08/2026 18:17

The first one is too dark, the dog doesn’t ’stand out’ and the background is horrible and spoils the picture (it should probably be more blurred). Sorry.

Have these been created using AI? There's something a bot weird about them but can't quite put my finger on it.
