What would you rate these pictures from 0-10? Any advice?

Have you posted the first picture before? Nice snap of the dog, the background is poor though.

Stick one is quite nice.

Yellow flowers one he’s in the shade.

Grass one - nice dog and grass but the sky looks wrong.

If you want my total honesty, they’re no better or worse than i can snap with my iPhone, especially on portrait mode.

WallaceinAnderland · 09/08/2026 14:22

None of them are great. They look too heavily edited.

7238SM · 09/08/2026 14:23

Did you pay someone OP to take these pics?

Why don’t you try a dedicated photography talk site like talk photography?
I haven’t been on there for a while but they used to be brilliant for feedback and advice.
Also what about joining a local photography group?

NuffSaidSam · 09/08/2026 14:28

They just look like normal pictures that you might take of your pet dog. Nothing amazing, but perfectly fine. So I guess 5/10?

Unfortunately the quality has majorly been destroyed by posting here!

The one with the stick in his mouth is quite decent -7/10, but the others are quite poor. 3.5 to 4.5 out of 5. Nice dog though.

weavingrugs · 09/08/2026 14:37

The one with the stick is pleasing in a “I’m using my own phone and have got a relatively good pic” kind of way. Something that if you weren’t particularly into photography you would be happy with, but if you had paid for it you’d definitely expect something more.

WallaceinAnderland · 09/08/2026 14:39

Why are they all so blurred?

BranClaps · 09/08/2026 14:40

On a basic level none of the compositions are very good, they look like pictures snapped on an iPhone on a dog walk. If you are asking because you’ve paid for them then the responding response would be you’ve been conned.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 09/08/2026 14:41

Why are you asking @Tuxmittens?

Happyjoe · 09/08/2026 14:44

Not sure what you mean as rate? Or what effect you were after? The photo's have been manipulated a fair bit, probably trying to save the photo.

The first is cropped badly and busy background, though the depth of field use is good. The one with the stick is best because of the content of the image, but it's been manipulated, the feet are not in focus, I presume someone is trying to blur out the background but has caught the feet. None of the photo's are sharp either and are a little underexposed. If going to shoot against the sun, need to take a meter reading from the dogs face because the matrix (general) meter reading is taking all of the light and underexposing the face. If use spot metering setting on a camera onto the dogs face, that would've sorted it.

However, if these are phone snaps then they're nice. If you paid a photographer, no this are not value for money.

WhatNextImScared · 09/08/2026 14:45

dog with stick pic is not in true focus

Yes agree

littlebigchicken · 09/08/2026 14:46

10/10 for all of them! 😍😍😍

You've posted these pictures (or at least the first one) before some time ago.

Did you want us to say they are excellent?

They are alright, but if I was paying for them or judging them for competition I wouldn’t be too impressed.

ClaredeBear · 09/08/2026 14:51

I love the offset edgy style in the first photo and the rain is an interesting detail. The photo with the stick is beautiful and I think I would crop the last one. I think they’re all lovely and you should continue a practising and finding out what works best.

WonderingAboutThus · 09/08/2026 14:52

They are nice amateur pictures and bad "professional" pictures - as in, not professional at all.

lulubalu · 09/08/2026 14:52

I like them all but I'm no expert. I'm a sucker for cats n dogs though ❤

Can you remember why please? Not really sure what the OP's after.

I'm not entirely sure but I think she had taken the photos and wanted to turn professional. She got pretty much the same comments back then as she has now.

Amandatelly · 09/08/2026 15:05

You posted these pictures some months ago and got a lot of feedback. Why are you posting them again?

Sweetbeansandmochi · 09/08/2026 15:23

So I did an online photography course and my two main takeaways were: Lighting - if you want a great photo you have to have great lighting with consideration to the angle of the light source.

Secondly: Composition - there is a ‘rule of thirds’ to basic composition.

Then, to be truly great you need to be able to manipulate it the exposure, contrast, blur etc and that is where the skill comes in.
