Sorry if this is too much info for 6am on a Sunday morning but I’ve just come on and with a long day of entertaining 3 young children ahead of me, I can’t think of anything worse than lining some old pair of bridget jones style underwear with a huge ass pad.

So, I’m off to Asda this morning and for the first time, I shall buy and try tampons. I have had 3 children (c section). Which brand & size do I go for?!

It’s not sizing its absorbency and many people will use a more absorbent one earlier in their period and a lighter one later on . Tampax to packs of multiple absorbencies but I always found Lillets less likely to leak. If it’s inserted correctly you shouldn’t be able to feel it.

parkintrouble · 09/08/2026 14:18

I would recommend period pants. Modibodi or similar.

KitsyWitsy · 09/08/2026 14:21

I use the pure cotton, natural ones but they aren't particularly absorbent. The flo ones. I usually use pads but will use tampons if I'm travelling or swimming etc.

No one can tell you what size because it depends on your flow. I’d suggest an applicator for a first time user but you soon get used to them and then can use any.

I have no idea what a period troll is meant to be and I assumed it was perfectly normal to ask for brand recommendations and sizing advice considering I have never used tampons and have had 3 c sections…….. I’m not going into graphic weird details ?!

That you have had 3 c sections says nothing about how heavy you period is. Size has nothing to do with your anatomy - as most women know!

Any1ForTennis · 09/08/2026 14:33

My spider sense is telling me this was written by a man or a woman with X-Y chromosomes.

Cuppachuchu · 09/08/2026 14:35

Didn't you learn about this sort of stuff at school? Like most girls?
Are you a boy? 😏

WhatNextImScared · 09/08/2026 14:35

I prefer lilets for absorbance but always had trouble inserting them. I like tampax compac as they always seemed to sit in the right place.

i’m not a fan of anything internal though, always end up irritated. I only use tampons for swimming or on top of period pants for feeling fresher on the worst heavy days

notanothernamesurely · 09/08/2026 14:35

I’d start with tampax pearl. You can move to the cheaper brands that aren’t as silky once you feel more confident. Start with the regular ones and size up if your flow is too heavy with them.

This is incredibly uncharitable. I never used tampons at school. Never worked for me comfortably until I’d already delivered two children in my thirties.

& @Abracadeborah I don’t know a single person who uses a mooncup or period pads. Funny isn’t it.

This is surprising. Most people I know use mooncup or an equivalent, but they give me utis. As do period pants on anything other than very light days (day 1, and day 6/7). Sadly my periods are getting much heavier and harder to handle with perimenopause.

Sparkletastic · 09/08/2026 14:41

Hmmm

Cuppachuchu · 09/08/2026 14:41

Okay, even if you'd never used them, parent or peer information/magazine adverts/TV adverts/boots/superdrug/every supermarket/vending machines in toilets everywhere. You'd have to have been living under a rock or something to be a woman and not know anything about tampons, surely?

Think about what happened to get the babies in there, not what got them out. Now consider how big even the largest tampon is...

How you gave birth is irrelevant to tampon brand and size. It depends on your flow.

Happyjoe · 09/08/2026 14:47

It's not really just size, it's flow. If you've a heavy period then go with the max ones, same in reverse.
I never got on with lillets, just too lightweight. Tampons for me were better plus easier to use.

This doesn't make sense, you have asked everyone you know what period products they use but never thought to any of them ask them for tampon advice.
You waited for a random Sunday morning to to decide to ask the internet

ScotiaLass · 09/08/2026 14:51

I think a busy day in sole charge of 3 little ones is not a great time to try tampons for the first time to be honest. I don't get on with them post-kids as a result of a slight prolapse and they will not stay in place. If you're the same that will result in discomfort and potentially a big leak.

WonderfulSmith · 09/08/2026 14:52

I find it hard to believe that someone who has got so far into adulthood and has carried three babies to term has never used a tampon. And you know what your friends use to know they don’t use period pants or moon cups.

SpaceShark · 09/08/2026 14:52

They're horrible things. Try putting the next one in too soon after taking one out, and it's too dry. Or going to the toilet and weeing all over the string. Grim. I'd stick with pads.

Promisingtree · 09/08/2026 14:05

Sizing advice? Wtf
Do you want someone to come round and measure your vag?

Omg! That made me laugh 😂!
Such a weird thread.....

Definitely. Although not a single woman in the history of the universe has the XY chromosomes.

No, I think that poster means that you get the information at school, in PSHE or whatever. Usually.

Or doesn't know that it's not about how you gave birth.
