Last month apparently. I loved his music, first came across it in the 90s and it made such a difference to me. Funny thing is, I never looked much at what he sampled and had never heard '. As a bit of a philistine, I must say that I blood love Orbit's version -

That's come out a bit garbled but you get the idea.

Barber’s Adaggio for strings is superb! I knew it as that first before Orbit released his version- maybe I’m a fair bit older than you 😂 I heard it performed at Proms in the Park at some point in the early 2000s- very stirring.

Unfortunately I now associate it with 9/11, not sure why- maybe it was played a lot at the time. So I don’t like to hear it now, it just gives me images of the Falling Man etc.

Sorry to hear Orbit has died- he wasn’t particularly old.

I'm 64.

Yeah, Orbit was only 69. No idea what he died of, though.

I had no idea the music was associated with 9/11 but then I don't follow much media. I was just impressed by his version of the piece.

I don’t know if it was associated with 9/11 per se- possibly just by me! Maybe it was played over one of the montages of images on the news.

I absolutely ADORE his Adagio for Strings !! Far better than the original ( sorry Barber ! ).
I always thought if more classical music could be done in a similar way it would be a fabulous way to bring it to more people.
