If you saw a parcel left on the doorstep of a neighbour, would you take it in?

We live on a VERY busy road. Lots of vehicles passing, lots of footfall.

Yes and then message them to say I had it.

rubyslippers · 07/08/2026 17:50

No
it’s up to the parcel company to deliver it safely
just leave it and if there is an issue the neighbour can sort it

Nousernameideaaga · 07/08/2026 17:52

No, they may have already told the driver to just leave it on the doorstep

No good deed goes unpunished , remember ☺️

Topseyt123 · 07/08/2026 17:53

No. Delivery companies often send a picture of the parcel with the notification that the delivery has taken place. So I'd leave it for the recipient to find.

I also wouldn't want a neighbour just wandering onto my own property to pick up parcels either.

Velvera · 07/08/2026 17:53

Not if I knew they would be home soon. If they were away I would.

Cactus09 · 07/08/2026 17:58

Yes- I probably would- if I was going to be at home the rest of the day so they could collect it from me. Also, if I knew them and had their details to contact them and ask first.

Arlanymor · 07/08/2026 17:58

If I knew them then yes.

FuzzyBumbleeBee · 07/08/2026 17:59

Depends on the neighbor
The one on our left yep id take it and put it in our parcel box in case he needed it and we went out but would send a message saying i had moved it
Different set ups so my parcel box is secure behind gates with cameras but his frontage Is visible and accessable by the main road through town

The neighbors on the right nope

ThisLittleLightOfMineee · 07/08/2026 17:59

Absolutely not

Deadringer · 07/08/2026 18:01

If I had their number i would text them to ask if they wanted me to take it in.

SunshineAndFizz · 07/08/2026 18:01

Only if I knew them.

Otherwise not my business.

Stoflinewer · 07/08/2026 18:01

If I knew they were away then yes and I would what’s app them . One side ( not the other )

BalakayAARon · 07/08/2026 18:04

Yes I would, with a message to them or a note. Not if I was about to leave on holiday or otherwise be unavailable to pass it on though!

madaboutpurple · 07/08/2026 18:16

I would but I would leave a note for them explaining I saw it and was keeping it safe for them.

This is what I have done 😊

Yes and I have done for my 2 close neighbours we are friendly with, always followed by a text to let them know. They’ve been very grateful as we live on a busy road and I’ve had a parcel taken from my front door before as have one of the others.
They have also done the same for us if they’ve noticed a parcel left.

DriveVerySlowlyPastNumber23IWantThemToSeeMyHat · 07/08/2026 18:21

I've taken it in and left a note 😊

If you wouldn't, I'm curious why?

My road's what's app group is always asking ppl to grab their parcels so they aren't nicked.

Of course I would.

MummyWillow1 · 07/08/2026 18:23

I have done before, but I messaged them to tell them I had it. Turns out her Dad was in but had fallen asleep and missed the delivery 🤣

DozyCrow · 07/08/2026 18:23

My NDN sometimes texts and asks me to take in a parcel that's been left. We live on a busy main road with a bus stop outside so the chance of theft is high. If I saw one that had been left visible, I'd take it in and text them straight away that I had it for safe keeping. I get on well with both my immediate neighbours so we'd do something helpful like this for each other and keep each other informed.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 07/08/2026 18:24

I live somewhere it's very very safe. Very little passing traffic and plenty of people with eyes on casual walkers. I STILL get delivery drivers handing me parcels for my next door neighbour, so I just take them and take them round and leave them at the back door! The only time I took in a parcel that had been left on the doorstep was when it was absolutely sluicing it down with rain and the parcel was very obviously a new mattress. Messaged and told them what I'd done and took it round as soon as they got home.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 07/08/2026 18:43

We do. Had a very happy next door neighbour last week because I saw the parcel as I was going out and picked it up. There was no way it would have still been there when she got home from work. She saw me on her camera so knew it would be safe until we were both back.

She does the same for us, so it works out fine.

murasaki · 07/08/2026 18:45

One side, yes, and message. The other, no chance.

nothokngtolietoyou · 07/08/2026 18:53

No, only because most delivery companies send a message and a picture to let people know where it is. If it happens to go missing, they will very likely get a refund.

Not all of us have lovely/friendly neighbours and some neighbours would get cross about me doing this
