Can I do all this in a day. On my own?

Can i get all this done in one day on my own in one day. It would be around 12 hours. I have around 8 10kg washes could be more.

I need to build a couple of flat packs and dds bed. Plus i need to move all of dds stuff from ds room back into dds room. Irs alot.

Then I need to do ds bedroom. Its trashed. I'm hoping its not as bad as it looks .

There will likely end up more washing than I think.

Then I also need a general tidy up of the house.

I'm thinking maybe i should start with the worst room.

Children are not here. I want to make a clean slate so they can start from fresh. And i will do things like stickers for where things go. Maybe an alarm set at say 6pm every day means time to tidy.

You've done really well today - that list was huge. I'm in awe of anyone who can build large flat pack items by themselves.

Sounds like you made progress today ? Do you have another day ?

Everything is done apart from 2ish loads of washing. My energy has gone now so i migh do the last couple tomorrow. And just potter about now.

Wow! @Wishywashy88

Whatwouldnanado · 07/08/2026 07:54

Well done. Suggest you sit down with a cuppa and pen and paper to come up with a weekly for yourself/kids for housework going forward to avoid it building up again.

No I'm just bit of a prick. And let it get on top of me. So i need to reset before it gets worse.

You can reset, but don't set yourself up for failure by trying to do it all in a day. Prioritise. Eg, Wash and dry clothes that are needed soonest. Tidy and clean bedrooms and living room. Then choose the next most important thing. You have done really well but doing the most important task each day is better than having occasional blitzes.

Mcdhotchoc · 07/08/2026 08:23

I would (and have)
Pick up all clothes and put them into wash piles and then into bags. Put next to washing machine and put first load on.
Tackle ds room. Pick up and bin all rubbish. Put (toys?) Into whatever storage you have. Have a pile of dds stuff that has strayed into ds room.
Then I would do ds bed. And clean surfaces.
The most important bit though is to
A) listen to something as you are doing it
B) stop every 30 mins, go downstairs and have a breather.

I'm so much better than I used to be. It gets on top of me now and then but not as bad as it used to be.

With the kids I'm getting stickers of what gos where. . I think visual will make it easier and setting alarm every day for 6pm for tidy up time..

Get off Mumsnet and crack on and see how much you get done- good luck. I do most of my washing on a 20 mins cycle and it's fine.

Fantastic! I never imagined reading your first post that would manage all that!

Put in a Colour Catcher sheet!

To late 🤣 i forgot they even exist. I always thought it was more of a worry when clothing is new?

I dyed my white towels pink the other day. They were new i forgot to separate them.🫠

No. But to help you keep going …

Get the washing started and then tidy kitchen. You’ll return to this room so don’t let it be a place that brings you back down. You want to feel encouraged/satisfied!

listen to this. It helped me yesterday - https://podcasts.apple.com/ie/podcast/the-mel-robbins-podcast/id1646101002?i=1000780119544

then start a child’s room.

don’t forget (cos I always do) the laundry time and effort is actually getting all the stuff sorted and back into the wardrobes and drawers, not the putting into the machine bit.

did you mention building some flatpack? I wouldn’t start this until the rooms for the furniture are ready (this is me all week with three billy bookcases).

do things in timed chunks

don’t tear out the content of a whole wardrobe or anything drastic, go shelf by shelf/or block by block. Otherwise you risk getting overwhelmed and giving up in the middle of what is now a bigger mess.

don’t forget it if feels GREAT to get any of these jobs done so start with the aim being achievable. Smaller tasks are your friend. Good luck!

Boobyslims · 07/08/2026 09:14

Oh I just read your last post, sorry - well done you’ve literally done it!!

DeftGoldHedgehog · 07/08/2026 09:16

I think that would take me about six months of weekends.

You've transformed your towels!

I always throw in a colour catcher...just in case!

Anyway, well done on achieving a lot.

The most important thing - stop faffing on mumsnet and go and do something! This is the equivalent of drawing a fancy colour coded revision chart rather than revising. Stop faffing here and get on with it! It doesn’t have to be in the optimum sequence you just need to START!

chocoluv · 07/08/2026 09:23

I love your energy!!

The flat packs are the easiest and most enjoyable bit but there’s no point doing them until it’s clean, so I think you’ve made the right choice.

Same with the bed, there’s no point doing it if it’s not clean.
You also sometimes need someone to hold one end (I broke a bed by trying to do it by myself), so I’d wait for your DCs to get home.

They don’t need to be there the whole time but it’s handy to shout for them and help you with one bit quickly, instead of having to wait until they come home to be able to finish it.

Washing is easy but it’s the drying and I don’t see the need to do it all in one day anyway.
Just put a couple of washes on per day in order of importance.

Washing is done. And house is tidy. Decided not to do the flat packs . As you say tidying was more important.

I'm sure the pink towels look lovely!

MrsSlocombesCat · 07/08/2026 12:54

I was without a washing machine for four weeks. When I had one again first I picked out enough for a change of clothes including underwear and towels. I washed that and seperated all the rest into piles of colours, dark and light, whites and towels.I had it all in my bedroom and on the landing. I did two loads a day until I caught up. I can't advise on the other stuff because I am terrible at cleaning! But I would make a living space, make sure there is a path to the kitchen and everyone's beds.
