Third Baby or uni?

back story-
I’m 31 a dental nurse of10 years, I have a nearly 7 yo and 4 yo. Currently finished studying access to nursing and came out with a high DDD grade and on route to study nursing in uni.

me and my husband have gone back and fourth about having a third. We would like one but our house is not big not small but may feel the squeeze with a third. Money would obviously be tighter but manageable if I go back to work part time rather than uni.
I would like to go to uni to have a career and I didn’t really enjoy challenging myself through college. My worry is that having another baby will affect my studies and would be unmanageable to pursue if we did go ahead.
im really unsure on what to do I really would like my kids to have a sibling closer in age than waiting but I feel like im letting myself down if dont go ahead with uni

I go back and for in my head all day everyday im in such a rut I really am torn

I think work for a year and save as much as you can and plan for 2027 to go to uni. Baby might be a nice idea in theory. But I would sticl with two.

I'd do uni-having 3 kids can be much harder and more expensive, and going to uni in your field might give you a good chance of a career (though please look into this, as I know things are different now so take advice from people who have recently graduated).

I would stick with two and go to uni.

Uni 100%

Have the baby! Uni will still be there in a few years

Savvysix1984 · 05/08/2026 23:20

Uni and give your current two a better standard of life. Going back with 3 will be very hard, especially with the age gap.

Mossstitch · 05/08/2026 23:29

I have three and went to uni at 43 when youngest was 9 (funnily enough the age gaps were similar too when i had the third), you have plenty of time to do both if you want.

Anon501178 · 05/08/2026 23:33

If you can't shake the feeling of having a 3rd, I think that is telling you to do it.
As long as you can afford and provide the essentials, it will work out i'm sure and you won't regret it.Whether you do it before or after uni is a different matter.....at your age you have options for either i guess.

LizandDerekGoals · 05/08/2026 23:34

Go to uni and improve the prospects for the two you have. A family of 5 becomes a challenge even with holidays, as it is two rooms. And fitting three in the back of a car in carseat.

Have you asked you dh how his life will change to acomodase a baby while you do uni?

Personally, I’d have a third baby - I always wanted three - but I ended up with two. They’re lovely though (ages 20 and 18 now). The primal instinct of wanting DCs was very strong for me

Can you do the apprenticeship route? You can start building your career as a HCA, see if you like the role without the commitment of university
